My opinion ...

With quick-disconnect links that are common today, it is easier to remove the chain and soak/scrub it in an open container. It usually results in less wasted solvent or Simple Green or whatever you use to clean your chain too.

Used toothbrushes are perfect for this work.

My 2nd opinion: I used this a few years ago. It was messy, had a tendency to leak at a joint and only did a partial job. Then the problem of draining the residual cleaner off the chain and drying it so it could be relubed.

Now I have the quick-disconnect links on all our bikes. Zip the chains off, 2 litre soda bottle with a few inches of a solvent, shake an swirl, fish chain out for its hot water rinse, dry, install, lube and done. It took me longer to type this on my cursed iPad than it did to accomplish the chain clean.

I have one of these chain cleaner machines (not Park, Pedro's I think) in a ziplock bag. It's really dirty, used twice, but works fine. A new one will be filthy after one use anyway. You can have it for the cost of shipping.

Like others, I clean chains off the bike now.

Yeah, this is what I've been doing (with mineral spirits in an old Jif jar). Sometimes my quick links are difficult to disconnect, especially on my 10-speed chains. I was hoping the Park chain scrubber would be a good workaround, but I guess not.

I appreciate the effort! :)

This would be a better investment in my opinion.....

+1 on the Park Tool MLP-1.

The hard part with Quick Link or Missing Link (I use KMC) is the disconnecting part. Reconnection is a breeze. What once was a messy job of chain cleaning is now super easy and you don't get other parts of the bike dirty, either. Not to mention sometimes it's better not to have the chain there. Such as derailleur or BB replacement/adjustment. For the price of getting that on-the-bike cleaning gizmo you liked, you can getting an MLP-1 and still have enough to buy a Quick Link ($3?).
