View Full Version : Big Leg Emma VS Love # 3...

I know, I know...like apples and oranges with 2 different materials and all, but...in some ways they are very similar as well, yes? Big, round tubes, TIG welded, same builder, same geometry....
I am going to buy a Pegoretti very soon. I know who I am buying it from (hint, hint-can you say 3rd person...). I am just torn between the 2 bikes.
I love the stoutness of both, especially the downtube and chain stays of the BLE. The 06' paint schemes are wild (and I love them!). I dont think I mind spending the extra $$$ on the BLE...but???
Oh, btw, weight of a bike is of little concern to me, considering I am 6' 5" and weigh about 240...
Please, I'd love everyones thoughts, comments, opinions or even flames.
As always, thank you all in advance,
Steve
PS: Being a big guy, I've always had really bad luck with aluminum. Rough ride, noisy, etc. Steel on the other hand...
PSS: It's looking very good that the TV show I am working on will get piocked up for the rest of the season (this is the qualifier for me buying or not buying a new bike in 2005).

Why would I want a CIII?
I would love to know peoples opinions on the differences between the two Peg's.
Thank you,
Steve

just kidding.
I would get a BLE in your shoes. Neither bike is superlight anyway, and with the BLE you will get a bike that will also last longer and most likely ride better.
And I'd smack my ankles on either, and I weigh 150, so I say Marcelo!

What do you mean?
I'm curious....do the oversized chainstays cause problems?
I have a size 14 shoe (49 euro). Will I have a problem???
Thanks,
Steve

As long as you aren't going to use it for really long rides I'd say the BLE without any question. I've seen the Jerk's and it is beyond georgious! It's on my short list of dream bikes. With your size it's a logical choice and it's steel and will last a lifetime with proper care.

since you are not concerned about weight, Maybe Dario could make you a BLM with a nicely tuned steel fork. With the big tubes, he might have to do something special to have those fork legs in proportion, but I bet he could do it well. Stick with threadless, but how about all steel?

won't happen.

wouldn't think so. depends on how you position your cleats.

Im just curious....will I have to do something different on shoes and cleats that I wear while riding a BLE than on other bikes?
I have no problems with other bike-shoe combos and hitting chain stays.
Senor Jerk..What do you think about me "upgrading"?
Thanks,
Steve

1 question: Will I have a problem with my size 14 shoes and the BIG A$$ chainstays on the BLE?
I have size 48 feet (US13) and have had problems with my heels hitting chainstays. My feet are in-line to very slightly toe-out. On my Klein I have to use a triple BB to get clearance. Don't know about the BLE but it could be a concern depending on your cleat position and qfactor. I'm sure you could figure it out by requesting an outside chainstay width measurement about 350mm behind the BB on a BLE. Might be worth a try....
if you haven't had problems with other bikes, the jerk would not anticipate any problems with a ble.

(as for the upgrade, you know what the jerk rides! emma is the best.)

no doubt, with your/our size, the steel is a better option.
I personally don't think the diameter of the stay itself has a huge amount to do with people hitting their ankles and inner heels on them. I think it's a combination (toe-in/out, axle length, crank set up, cleat placement, shoe drilling etc).
enjoy.
why so definite about the Reynold's fork? great experiences?
great aluminium is great, great steel is great. Great people make great bikes. (I'm so deep, I need a frickin' oxygen tank sometimes!)

But, the bottom line is this...If Dario spec's the bike with an Ouzo Pro, he obviously feels very good about the product, spec's, geometry, etc...
I have an F1 on the Hors Cat, an F2 on the CSI, a F3 on the Ottrott and I just sold a Seven Axiom Ti that had an Ouzo Pro on it....all are great forks!
Everyone cross your fingers that the show gets "picked up for the back 9" as they say in the "industry"...I'll be pulling the trigger on a BLE as soon as that happens!
BTW, a certain someone (who speaks in third person) is actually not as he appears....he is quite the opposite. And, I plan on buying my BLE from him.
Thanks to all for such great responses...
And yes, I am blessed that I own my own home, have few debts and have no kids to put through college....I can spend THAT money on bike gear.
What a great sport we are all apart of!!!

let's not go there.
the jerk is not here to sell you anything. the jerk is here to entertain himself and let you in on the self-evident truths you seek.
no one's buying shi'ite from anyone on this forum. and the jerk's ble is not nor will it ever be for sale.

As for ther Hors Cat...Yes, I spent all summer riding it and truly love it!
Its almost done at JB with a very pretty repaint (I hope). I havent seen it yet. White with red decals. He found all the original decals for it! Amazing!
As for the Jerk, what he does is his business.
Good luck to you all!
