I am building up some summer clinchers. White Industries T11 and Velocity A23's in black.

What skewer would you all recommend for this combo?

I'd like something light and functional.

Get anything super light if you want something light.

If you want something that will last you have to nail shimano or campagnolo internal cam ones. But those are not light at all.

Something steel..

uberlight ones are lighter than shimano or Campagnolo or Mavic but those ones aren't 'heavy'. Breaking a rear QR, trying to save a few grams, is a bummer when ya gotta ask for a rescue. Nobody riding along carries a spare QR, AFAIK.

Actually, there are people who carry spare skewers...most people just don't want to ride with them.

Actually again, this thread might help: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=122096

I've never had an external cam skewer that I liked. DA is so far superior to any aftermarket brands (I'm agnostic on Campy) that it's the proverbial no-brainer for me.

There are quite a few very cool looking, very light weight skewers out there. Having tried a couple pair out for those very reasons I can honestly say...Shimano or Campagnolo. I know they weigh more, but they are very functional.

I'm a Campagnolophile, through and through.

But if I were making the call just on skewers alone, then it's Dura-Ace. The Campagnolo serrated-steel faced ones are good too. but Dura-Ace are silver!

Have both been great on both steel & Ti dropouts. No issues that the internal cam advocates have raised concern over have been seen (though i understand their comments). My weight is @ 160

horizontal dropouts - get internal cam QRs. vertical dropouts - whatever looks good to you.

Thank you for the responses. I should have said that the bike has Campy gear on it.

Experiences stated (along with the old threads) pretty much match my own regarding Shimano and Campy.

I was checking to see if anything had changed and something new and cool was out there.

Has anyone tried something new and been impressed?

My Bontrager skewers clamp harder than anything I've owned with the least amount of effort. Huge lever arm, and properly sized cam. They're not light though.

I only use them on my singlespeed bike, where I need the wheel to not slide in the dropouts.

Newer...dt Swiss twist skewers are pretty cool......tandem worthy (steel version) but then so are many external cam skewers. Off road too.

Still use specialized ti skewers from the early 90's.

The one skewer that one should be careful with are USE spinstix. Not to be used with polished dropouts.

I have ridden Dura Ace skewers for over 4 years without problems.

I have ridden KCNC titanium skewers without problem for over two years.

I have weighed between 205 and 180 lbs. during this time in question. YMMV.

DA or Standard DT, I tried the DT Ratchet, did not care for, but my friend had good luck with them

keep it simple

I have ridden with many different people and seen all different types of spare parts in bags or pockets, never in 25 years seen spare skewer being carried by someone,
nor have I seen one break on a ride and my friend and I have broken about every part that can be worn our or broken when cycling

One time we were doing a 300 brevet and a guy forgot his skewers I had a set in my tool bag that stays in the truck

but I digress,

Joe Young (http://www.youngwheels.com/) is selling the DT RWS (http://www.dtswiss.com/Components/RWS/RWS-Road-steel)skewers with his wheels now and he seems to know a thing or two about wheels.

I picked up the HED skewers for some WI/C2 wheels I picked up off the forum. I haven't done any riding on them yet, has anyone had good or bad experiences with these?
