I have a set of the praxis works on my super six with a campy 10 speed chain and they work great.

Wick Werks may fit the bill.

So I guess TA is the only option?

Wick Werks doesn't make a 52t 130BCD ring, nor does Praxis (they don't make a 38t either), and the Red 52/38 chainrings are 110BCD.

SRAM definitely makes a Red Black 130bcd 38T ring. I owned one. I sold it because it would not work with my Quarq. The chain hit the spider. The 52T I'm not so sure about.

Which brand of cranks? If Shimano, have you thought about a Shimano large ring? They make a 52T for 130 BC, and shifting is pretty good. Not sure the 38T makes much difference to either shifting or stiffness. Personally would keep the matching 39T but that's a different issue you didn't ask about. Sorry for mentioning it, but it's something that didn't make much difference to me when tried years ago.

If money is an issue Vuelta makes 130bcd rings from 38t up to 60t with price ranging from $21 up to $39.50. Made in the USA, Vuelta rings are sold under a variety of names including Engagement, Salsa, Silver, Willow, Dimension and a few others. Check it out:

The 38 doesn't matter nearly as much as a super well shifting big ring.

The 52t thing does matter since I junior gear.

I have a silver 50 tooth TA Vento 9/10 chainring on one of my 10's campagnolo bikes, using it with a 39. It's a georgous work of art chainring, like bike jewelry.

It has 6 pins to aid in shifting, but no ramps, and is designed to shift pretty good with about any small ring. And that's about how it shifts.....OK.

I ride Campagnolo, and same small ring with a Centaur 52 (a 52/39 ring), with 6 pins and ramps, that's designed to work with a 39, shifts much better. And I have a Chorus 52 (same 4 arm design as Record), with 8 pins and ramps, designed to work with a 39, that shifts even better yet. That's one of reason I keep going back and forth between a 39-50 and a 39-52. I like the gearing of the 39-50 better, but like the shifting of the rings designed to work together better. Maybe I will just sell the TA ring and stop the indecision. Maybe I'm over sensitive to all this. I've also used a 42 with a 39/52. and a 39 with a 42/52. They will all shift OK, just not like the rings designed to work together. Sometimes have to make the FD over shift a tad for that good shift. Some folks don't agree with me on this.

If I were you, would find a 130 BCD 52 designed specifically to work with a 39. Which 39 you use probably doesn't matter as long as space between rings is correct....so I would probably stick with matching rings. With both pins and ramps to aid in that front up shift you say is important to you. It is to me also.

Plenty of Ultegra 52's 52/39 on E Bay. 9 or 10 speed.
