I need to replace a 2006 Centaur CT 28.6 front derailleur (broken cage). I vaguely recall that:
1) I don't need the "CT" version for a 50x34 and 2) up until recently, I could cannibalize the cage and shifting mechanism from other size clamp on models or even from braze on models. Can someone confirm this and remind me when Campy changed the design which disallows the cannibalization? Is that change in design easily visible in eBay photos? Thanks.

1) No you don't and 2) yes you can. 2008 and later Fders couldn't see the clamap/brazeon part swapped.

Looking from the back of the FD you can see either a 3mm allen ot C clip..2008, that isn't there. Depends on the ebay photo.
