Even more interesting is to look at the Pro Continental teams, where they're getting their gruppos free, but not getting paid as much by the component manufacturers.

Europcar still doin' it right! :) Who on Europcar is 5'11". And what kind of chocolate does he like?

Good for Campy--interesting about SRAM "shrinking back".

SRAM still has El Pistolero and that might just be good enough, although there's been talk of certain team(s) willing to pay not to use SRAM. Shimano is standing pretty tall for the Spring Classics, and of course the grand tours.

Who? Not Voeckler? He's not that tall, is he?

I agree..wonder if any of the conti teams will have Athena EPS..I'm guessing yes.

Any proof that these teams actually PAID not to use their stuff?? That's really hard to believe. Not saying its not true. Just shocking.

I think its more in line of Garmin buying their own (Shimano) groupsets. Not paying a manufacturer (example SRAM) NOT to use their components.

How is radioshack still even a team??

campy must be making money hand over fist with EPS ;)

Well you forgot the rider that you can always count on because of his bravery, he never complains, and even more because of his reliability... Andy Schlep!

And seriously? you forgot the german guy that can do it all, besides him and fc, the team has nobody else.

Fabian.....and thats about it.

Equipment, shmequipment.

I wouldn't count out Andy-boy, although seeing him fail would provide a welcomed 2 sec of comic relief.

SRAM pushed back their IPO , so maybe they don't have the funds for as many ProTour teams as in years past. Money issues?

They're neck deep in broken shifters. (Kidding...)

That's odd. I'm happy for campy, but incredibly Suprised that SRAM is losing market share.

They chose to not use sram, sram was offering sponsorship-the teams ended up buying their shimano components. Nobody paid the teams to not use something, shimano didn't pay BMC to NOT use sram.

Market share is almost entirely in OEM land and shimano for 2013 is 'stepping up', if looking at 2013 bicycles is any indication. I know Campagnolo had a record setting year in 2012..as did shimano.

sram took bites out of shimano..via OEM. Campagnolo can't even spell OEM.

Yeah i hadn't had my coffee yet.......

I thought maybe there was some sort of contract buyout where they physically dulled out some frn's but your version makes much more sense :p

but, is there any possibility that reliability was a factor in those decisions.

Probably a combination of reliability (more because of time spent replacing broken shifters, parts cost is obviously not a factor here) the ease of setup and lack of need to adjust electrical shifting, bonus of sprint/climber aux shift buttons with Di2, the IPO thing, and SRAM is doing a new HQ here in Chicago...
