Some people could not stand him. I thought he was great. And as a career counselor and into careers of all types, I thought he had one of the best jobs in the world.

Cool dude. At one time, he owned this house in the desert:

No more California's Gold!

Seemed like a good dude; moving thru life in his own way, on his own terms.

Oh man this thread hits like a lead brick. Wow. I grew up watching his shows over the course of many years, by myself as well as while sitting down with family. So many good memories of enjoying his programs, especially in recent years. Loved 'em all, even have several series on DVD.

Huell, you were California's Gold yourself, sir. You brought a lot of joy & laughter, as well as opening our eyes to new & unique things. You made the world a better place. RIP.

Loved his stuff...

I'm imagining him in heaven right now:

Huell: So wait a minute, this is heaven?

God: Yes, Huell.

Huell: And you're God?

God: Yes, Huell.

Huell: So you're saying this is heaven?!

God: Yes, Huell.

Huell: And you're God?!

God: Yes, Huell.

Huell: So let me get this straight. You're God? !

God: Yes, Huell.

Huell: And this is heaven?!

God's speed, Huell.

I can honestly and seriously say that Huell was a hero to me.
His positive attitude and curiosity came across as completely genuine to me.
In addition to that, I have traveled to and explored places and things in California that I never would have had it not been for Mr Howser.
I am truly going to miss him.

He donated his entire collection/archive, including every CA Gold episode, to Chapman University

Huell: This place has a great feel to it, doesn't it?

North, south, east, west. GPS in hand as I recall...to touch all 4 corners.

Doesn't California have 5 corners: Southeast, southwest, northwest, northeast, and wet?

I forgot we are sort of a rectangular state.

Doesn't California have 5 corners: Southeast, southwest, northwest, northeast, and wet?

They had some clips of his great commentary this morning on The Sound 100.3 in LA.

One of my favorites was, "That's an avocado eating dog!"

He also said something like, "That's something I always wanted to see: an upside down house! Look there an upside down bed! An upside down chamber pot!" And he went on cataloguing all the contents.

One thing to remember about quoting Huell Howser is that every sentence ends with an exclamation point!

What an entertainer! I loved watching him!

Huell was awesome. His show on the Old Ridge Road was really informative...and turned out to be a great adventure ride for me too.

(. . . )

You forgot the kicker:

Huell: So let me get this straight. You're God? !
God: Yes, Huell.
Huell: And this is heaven?!
God: Yes, Huell.
Huell: This is *amazing*!!

RIP Huell. Loved your show and your sincere, homespun attitude.

He just retired from his show a few months ago. Perhaps he knew he didn't have much longer.
