Went to install a new 9000 BB and yikes, the spline pattern is smaller and different..

I guess that's why the tool is in there(plastic, with the BB cups).

Got an email to Park to see if they are gonna make a metal tool.

No more whinning about needing Campagnolo tools!!

BUT asked if you can use a 5700/6700/7800/7900/5600/6600...crank with this BB and the answer was yes..so...what I was really asking could you use a 5700/6700/7900 BB with 9000 cranks..so I guess the answer is

Yes.

$75 chain, $59 BB cups..

How's the install otherwise?

Both Campy and Shimano seem committed to creating BB/crank tool frustrations where none should exist.

But it's lighter! And better sealing, and less drag! ;)

Thanks for the research, OP.

Normal, normal, like any shimano threaded BB cup of the day..just the 'standard' tool is too big..lotsa grease all around, as per normal.

I'm a-guessing that's why they included a 'tool' with the cups.

The cups have bearings? The bearings have seals?

Is the pre-load adjustment the same as past versions?

Yes, yes, yes.

Bearings have to be smaller...maybe next they will put them into the BB shell-

So the ring on the far right in that picture is a plastic bb tool? How do you turn it?

With your hand..knurled outside.

That's not too bad. They could have changed the size of the axle. Thanks for the info!

And that's enough torque to hold the cups in? I suspect you would need more leverage to get the old cups out after a few years. Oh well. Since I'm not a shop, I'll do my best to avoid another standard.

I was thinking that too. The tool might be just to help you thread the cups in.

Park has one in design right now..along with the 'new' FSA cup size..whas wrong with these knuckleheads?

Sort of on topic, what tool do you reccomend for campy cups? I've used someone else's that fit somewhat loose and could easily mar the cups if one wasn't really careful.

hmm... i thought that ring was a reducer, not a tool. meaning, it goes between the existing bb tool and new bb to account for the reduced diameter.

i've got a 9000 bb at home i haven't installed. i'll try it tonight with my park bbt-9

Probably the best is the Pedros tool.

This un cuz it doesn't move in and out

maybe i'm not supposed to, but i've been using my park bbt-9 for all my external bearing bottom brackets. so far, it's worked fine on shimano, sram, campy, and race face.

Thanks for the recommendations. It's a shame standardized bb tools didn't last long.

Not a reducer..no 'teeth' on it for a 'standard' BB tool to grab onto-

tried it this morning. works just fine as advertised. the plastic ring supplied with the bb goes into the bb tool and the whole thing now is sized for the new bb. it fits snugly in the tool but easy enough to just press in with your thumbs. then you just use as usual. i actual like this cuz it has the side benefit of no chance of marring the finish since it's plastic

Has anyone ridden both 9070 and 9000 that can compare the two?

Di2 DA not released yet(9070). It is more akin to ultegra Di2 than DA 10s Di2 tho..wiring harness design-wise. Kinda makes DA 10s Di2 kinda an orphan. I expect Ultegra will be 11s and also electronic(along with mechanical) for 2014..probably see it at interbike-2013.

XTR electronic? Methinks so..wonder if it's 11s or 10s.

page 8 in DM-FC0003-00 dealers manual.

Had to find all the DMs for 9000 yesterday since my group did not have anything but users instructions in the boxes.

Two things you can't go wrong investing in: bike tool makers, and tattoo removal.
