Is there a company that supplies handlebar or stem mounts for various smart phones? My son would like to mount his where it's visible while riding and I really couldn't tell him where to get one. He doesn't want to buy a Garmin or anything new that's specific for cycling, just use an app for elevation, course, mileage, etc. on his existing phone, which I have no idea what brand or model it is.

I've got the Topeak on mine. Bought extra mounts so I can transfer the case and phone between bikes.

If he takes a tumble and smashes an Iphone, he might find that a Garmin is less costly to replace...

I run Strava on my iPhone though there are lots of other apps that will get you what you want. I set it for a ride then stuff the phone in my jersey pocket. The thing I don't like about a stem mount aside from if you fall, is the vibration that will transmit to the phone. That can't be good for the phone.
I can still access my phone if I want to take a call while riding (though this is becoming less and less important to me) and the phone is safer and also the handlebars have more room for, you guessed it, hands.
if you wanted to use this for actual routing GPS well then I suppose you need some kind of bar mount, along with carrying an extra battery (IMO)
