Not a ride but a good 6 mile run with my new dog. I haven't ridden since I got her 4 weeks ago. She loves to run, so it's all good.

on the Scalpel and what a difference the ride quality was. Needed a few PSI and rebound adjustments and WOW!
50 plus miles and almost 7000 feet of climbing with 5 good friends. Later on will be a full southern meal with blackeyed peas etc fo good luck.

It was tough deciding which 29er to ride.

I ran a 5k race this morning, not quite a PR with the cold and headwind but it does feel like a good setup for the year. First ride hopefully tomorrow!

I recognize the Scalpel, the Sheep, and the Firefly, but I can't figure out what the other one is. You should probably send it to me for a closer inspection. As for me, I took a walk around the block.

made it out for a very quick (and cold) jaunt on the cross bike. lots of 'happy new years' exchanged with several dog walkers and family walkers. super bumpy on snow-packed-by-footprints, but some climbs were actually a lot easier than when they are loose gravel. made it about half an hour before losing feeling in the extremities. happy new year!

On the way to the meeting point. Single-speed, 28 mm messenger tires (not `cross tires). Every bit as exciting as it looks :)

Madison's Grill/Portland Velo Cycling Club's annual "First Ride". We had over 80 riders attend in 26degree sunny weather. It's our most "casual" ride of the year as well as the only "urban" ride we do all year. Due to the minimal amount of traffic on the streets around Portland on New Years Day we're able to ride almost the entire route as a group. Great camaraderie and chance for the faster riders to mingle with the slower riders, for new riders to get a taste of the club and for everyone to just slow down and enjoy beggining the new year on our bikes with good friends.
Following the ride Portland Velo sponsor, Madison's Grill provides a huge, free brunch with French toast, loads of bacon, eggs, potatoes, fruit and drinks in one of their banquet rooms.

Hudson Valley blustery today with roads still bad from storm, hoping for sun to come out soon

I wish I'd been able to take photos today as the sun and snow was really sparkling and pretty. So no photos but a very brief report.

I rode the fatbike today and rode it up into the mountains about as far as i could get on the snow.......which is further than one might guess considering you're riding up fairly steep singletrack on snow. The trail's gotten a good bit of ski and foot traffic so it was firm and grippy and really fun going either up or down. In all it was about 10 miles and 1000' of vertical and a great day to start the year.

It feels good to have ridden on both the last and first day of 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Happy New Year.

The New Years Day forecast was for yet another very hot one so I was on the road by 0515 and back home by 0700 (you could feel the sting in the sun even by then). About 40km on roads that I had almost completely to myself......lovely  No photo's I'm afraid as the roads I ride on are very suburban and uninteresting compared to some of what I see on here

After my pathetic total km's for 2012 I am determined to do better this year so that means not making up p**sweak excuses for not going for a ride and getting my sorry arse out of bed most days and riding. So this was a good start

My Primus Mootry. It would fit you like a glove.

After a nice night having been fed too much food and IPA by GuyGadois, A friend and I did anout 25 miles on CX bikes on a hilly twisty gravel road that crosses the coastal mountains in Templeton, about 20 miles north of San Luis Obispo. Temps were 35-65 degrees with some rain, which is why we Californians are masters of layering.
A nice start to the year.

We rode to one of our favorite diners for the traditional pork and sauerkraut dinner. We got 38 miles in, which probably wasn't enough for the amount of food we ate.

The snow is just too good for bike riding right now.
After a horrible, practically snowless year last year, we've built up a nice snowpack and I hear my backcountry skis calling me every free moment that I have.

Started off the New Year right with a 1:45 ride. The roads were clear enough and the sun peaked out a bit to make it enjoyable. Now the trick is to ride more in '13 than I did in '12.

Ours was a 20 mile out and back between rain showers. I was cold (for us - Low 40's) and wet so the pace was laid back and the conversation good. Great way to start the year.

I just did a nice around town ride, hitting every back ally and small street I could think of, nice seeing all the people getting together for a late afternoon lunch or packing the cars to get back home, gotta enjoy the deserted streets.

I was planning on doing a bigish ride. But I got double pinch flats and only had one tube (dumb a**!). Still trying to find the right PSI for 700c on the rocks. Anyway, I flagged a guy down who gave me a tube and wouldn't take my five bucks. A quick bummer turned into an alright day. How's that for a start?

The only picture I took today but look what great weather! Everyone was out with their loved ones.

Got out for a little over 2 hours on the 'tank': a 25 lb IF steel frame with some kit on it. Mid-upper 30s and completely overcast all day. Roads were dry so no prob.

The guys I normally ride with were a little too hung over, so I went for a solo MTB ride at Marshall Canyon, which a short 10 mile ride through L.A. County forest land near the City of La Verne.

I only took one photo, at the top of the climb, just before dropping down some fun singletrack.

Unfortunately it was in the teens here today and i'm a wimp, so I spent two hours on the trainer. I watched the end of the GP Sven Nys bpost bank trofee race and then the Zolder World Cup, so the view wasn't horrible.

The bike club postponed the New Years Day century due to the cold but my neighbor and I had already gotten our bikes/clothing set up yesterday so we so we figured what the heck and went out for 3.5 hours. Turned out to be a really nice day with temps starting in the high teens and climbing into the 20s. Would have been perfect for a century.

It was sunny and in the mid 70s here in South Florida, though a tad windy along the ocean. I got in a slow 23 miles. It was my 2nd ride since getting a cast off my ankle a week and a half ago. Two months off the bike, and it seems like I'm just starting out again. Still, it was a beautiful start to the New Year.

I rode Diablo yesterday (for the first time -- what a great climb!) and the combination of that effort + a party last night left me with an almost insurmountable activation energy barrier today. Finally, with just an hour of light left, I realised that I didn't want to start the year like that so I hopped on the bike with the intention of going for as flat a ride as I could find. Once on the bike however, I thought that a flat ride would be an inappropriate start to year that I hope will be full of beautiful col climbing, so I decided instead to go for the steepest thing I could find which is Marin Ave. I won't lie: it kicked my a$$ and went a lot worse than my last time on the hill. I even had to do a little zigzagging to keep moving. Obviously no pictures as I was in survival mode, but I'm glad to have started the year like that.

Was aiming for a metric century on a combo of tarmac and dirt roads but only got to 90km before calling it. My riding buddy had a serious attack of the screw-its and it took him till noon to get to my place or we'd have had enough daylight to get all the way back to my place.

NYE we went mtn biking to Whitney State Forest and back to his place.

Ended the year right. Started the year right.

Century coming up on Fri* so my legs can't secede from the union just yet.

*was supposed to be today, but got moved to a day without rain forecast

Got in the annual degree day ride. 1 mile per degree, only 14 miles but was getting cool by the time it was over. Gotta do these by myself when it's below freezing (it usually is) hard enough to generate some heat but never ever break a sweat. Felt better when I got back home so I must have done it correctly. Traditional start to the year for me. Came home to good luck beans and cornbread, yum. Should be a good year.

F**k me, look at those tyres   And with that gearing it looks like you could climb Everest on that thing.

I'm loving the snow and mountain shots people.
