View Full Version : In the market for a cross bike.....

My neighborhood is undergoing a paving/drainage improvement
program that has 90% of the pavement being removed. Lots
of dirt everywhere (could be mud if it ever rains), barricades
and earth-moving equipment that prevents riding road bikes
for 4 square blocks. Instead of complaining, I am feeling the "NEED"
a real cross bike. Knobby tires, cantilevers....the works. Since
the construction crew only works Mon - Fri, maybe a local
organized race is in order for Saturday! Me and the BMX kids
on the block fighting it out for neighborhood bragging rights.
Any recommendation for an "urban/cross" machine is welcome.

Rivendell Atlantis, will take a 29er tire or just a huge slick like
the Schwalbe Big Apple 50mm. Sort of a all terrrain MX Leader.
Looks good too, everyone will ask "How old is that ?"
A bike to make your wheel builder happy, you need a set of skinny
tire wheels and a fat tire set of wheels.
I rode mine with everything from 25mm slicks to Nokian Hakkapelita
studded snow tires, always fun.

Gives you something fun to ride while waiting for the framebuilder
of your choice to work thru his multiyear backlog.

I just got one of these. Absolutely the best tig welding I have ever seen, bar none. Great deal right now as well.

Don't you just love a new reason for another bike or equipment.

steel, relatively inexpensive. can be upgraded if you catch the CX bug, or cannot catch the BMX kids.

Found a cheap LeMond Poprad. Probably way too nice
for my skills but we'll see.
