Hi Group,

What sizes of chainrings are available for 130mm BCD cranks (double)?
I was hoping there was a plethora of sizes available. So that I could put a 39 / 48 on my wife's Kirk, but it looks like all that is available is 39, 40, and 42 inner and 52, 53 outer.

I plan on using 9 speed drivetrain, maybe 8 speed.

I think I see why DBRK likes the 110mm BCD solution.

size matters....smaller is better.

TIA,

MRB

I think your options are really unlimited. I called Harris Cyclery recently to buy some 130 bcd chainrings and they have almost every size you can imagine. Google Harris Cyclery. Call them. They are very helpful.

for instance, here is the link to Salsa rings at aebike.com.

Salsa has a bit more selection than Shimano, but rings may not be ramped and pinned.

Harris is where I got mine. It's a local shop for me, but I think they do things through the mail also.

Peter White has TA rings in 130bcd. Available in 38-56t, all inclusive.

This page at Harris is nice because it tells you how small a ring you can put on a given BCD crank:

In your case, for 130 that's a 38T inner ring.

This post is redundant, but who am I to care.

Yes, 130 BCD goes down to 38. Shimano offers a relatively small selection, but with some hunting you can find alternatives in a variety of sizes. I think FSA has a selection, TA Specialties as noted, Salsa/Sugino/QBP, Blackspire. A trip through the QBP catalog will will likely give you a couple of options, none too esoteric.

In general more $$$ will buy a more 'engineered' ring with ramps and pins and whatnot. Of course in a double, only the outer ring needs ramps and pins, eh?

and with 110 you can go at least down to 34--big difference.

I think the main thing he's looking for is a smaller OUTER ring. I've considered this too. Maybe a 50T outer ring instead of a 52T. I found a 50T on Harris Cyclery's website. It says it's a "B-type" and should be used in conjunction with "B-type" rings. What exactly does that mean? Would it work with my Ultegra triple 30-39-52 (i.e. replacing the 52 with a 50)?
