Found some old pics I took of the tour de trump/du pont and I thought I would have some fun with my new scanner. These are some of the better ones.

1.Greg Lemond leading the pro peleton down main street, Catskill, NY in the background is Stiener's Sports the local Serotta dealer.

2.Kelly leaning over to Alcula.

3.Ekimov in some communist kit.

That is not Sean Kelly and that is not Ekimov. Sorry to be mean. Ekimov was already riding on big teams then. Bobrik almost won the race. He later won the Giro di Lombardia and then quit taking EPO and then got fat and stopped racing. I don't think Kelly raced in the Tour of Trump.

I could be wrong about Kelly, but I think I am not.

It was a long time ago so my memory could be hazzy. But I am pretty sure that pre-glastnost Soviet athletes were Soviet property.

Still it's cool to see vintage race pics. I rode motorcycle support for two yrs. when the tour came to Va, DC. Back than a black BMW was all you needed to get hired ;) Nothing like watching the Pros up close and personal. Yowza.

also look at how they're less extended while on the hoods...and the hoods are just a tad higher...drops are in a similar spot...

Your right. Sorry the Catskill stage was in 90 not 89 and Ekimov had moved to Panasonic. Bobrik would have been the man for USSR. I found the results for both races here.

I believe that the mystery PDM rider is Erik Breukink. Kelly DID ride the Trump...or DuPont for PDM, but I think it was a year or two after these photos. Also, I don't remember Bobrik ever getting fat, but I sure do know that it affected Evgeny Berzin.
