Now that my friends know I like cycling, our tree now has a mini-peloton of 3 bikes. Over the next few years, I suspect this collection will grow.

I'm wondering what sorts of ornaments might be on your tree, cycling stuff for sure, but other unusual items too

The two most interesting pieces on my tree are a delfts blauw ornament, and a hollowed out eggshell with a tiny nativity scene inside. No bike themed ornament, yet...

We still have enough ornaments to decorate a 7 1/2 foot tree in an all cycling related theme. Disney, Dept 56, handmade ornaments found in christmas shops, miniature bicycles from various companies and very few cycling reflectors. With an old broken Cannondale crankarm with the hollow end cut off so it can become the star on top. It all really fills up the tree. We haven't been home on Christmas in the last several years, so we haven't put it up.

We collected pins from all the ski areas we have been to. My wife then made snowflake ornaments with a different pin on each one.

For years now I've been hanging a racquetball from the tree, as that's always been another hobby of mine. Also there are usually a couple of beer coasters up. But this thread has given me the idea to hang bike related things, and I'll start with a small chainring.

As an aside, one more thing I'll do this year is to put up a small green and white ribbon in honor of Newtown (school colors).

If I had a tree I would use a chainring as the star on top and hang some of the titanium shavings that come off the lathe on the branches. That said, I hate this time of year and I wonder how millions of people chop down small pine trees and drag them into their houses every year, knowing that they're going to die and leave pine needles all over. Even the sheep are laughing at us...

These bicycle figurines would make great ornaments.

Your Ti shavings would be the world's most expensive tinsel. As for how many millions of trees, I'll guess 50 million in the US. However wikipedia reports

"Each year, 33 to 36 million Christmas trees are produced in America, and 50 to 60 million are produced in Europe."

Its funny to me that maybe we are more green (or is it less green?) than Europe.

We used to use old christmas trees (those without flocking) as habitat for shoreline fish. They would collect them a few weeks after christmas.
