i noticed in a few of those pics that the riders are rocking ski goggles... being that I've never skied, how much better are these in the cold/snow? (I know Spidey uses em as well...) Just wondering because I'm challenging myself to commute thru the winter, so i'm looking at all my needs..

(a note -- i fog EVERYTHING)

Ski goggles are probably superior for winter weather riding. More coverage from the cold for your face, and better insulation from the wind for your eyes, better at keeping snow and other debris out because they 'seal' to your face.

Makes perfect sense. When I ride on really cold days my eyes will water even wearing wrap around shades. A pair of ski goggles would probably work great.

PS. Thanks for the pics William. They are fun. Makes it hard for me to make excuses about not riding due to the cold weather :( I guess I can just make excuses because I'm stuck at work with a big project, and there's not enough day light this time of year

If you're work place is workout friendly maybe you could talk them into one of these...

Just tell them one workout is like doing two in the low oxygen atmosphere.;)

I've found ski goggles to be great for really cold days. They eliminate the cold weather eye watering problem for me. They also eliminate the "that spot between my eyebrows is really cold" problem.

YMMV,

Rode in the valley but up here, the roads are a bit stiff for riding, at least for these old bones. A real winter arrived early.

I sent this note out to the reporters at the newspaper, as I do every year. I am officially a curmudgeon:

As we are now officially under way with the holiday season, I pass this along. Consider them unbreakable rules if you wish.
________________________________________

"’Tis the season": Do not use in stories, not in headlines, not at all. Never, never, never, never, never. You cannot make this fresh. You cannot make it clever. Do not attempt it.

"’Twas the night before" anything: 'Twasing is no more defensible than ’tising. (And if you must refer to the Rev. Mr. Moore's poem, if indeed he wrote it, the proper title is "A Visit from St. Nicholas.")

"Jolly old elf": This is old, and it's not jolly. And if you must use Kriss Kringle, remember the double s.

"Christmas came early": It never does. It comes on the same day each year, even in leap years.

"Yes, Virginia" allusions: No, Virginia.

"Grinch steals": When someone vandalizes holiday decorations, steals a child's toys from under the tree, or otherwise dampens holiday cheer, this construction may be almost irresistible. Resist it.

Give Dickens a rest: No ghosts of anything past, present or future. Delete “bah” and “humbug” from your working vocabulary. Treat Scrooge as you would the Grinch, i.e., by ignoring him.

"Turkey and all the trimmings": If you can't define trimmings without looking up the word, you shouldn't be using it.

"White stuff" for snow: We should have higher standards of usage than do television weather forecasters. Also avoid the tautologies favored by these types: winter season, weather conditions, winter weather conditions, snow event and snow precipitation. And the tautologies favored in advertising: free gift, extra bonus and extra added bonus.

Moldy oldies: Old Man Winter, Jack Frost and other moldy personifications can safely be omitted.

It’s not a Jewish Christmas: If the spirit of ecumenism and inclusion requires mention of Hanukkah in holiday articles, these points should be kept in mind. Hanukkah is a holiday more like Independence Day than Christmas, and it is only the coincidence of the calendar dates in a gentile culture that has caused the holiday to mimic Christian and secular elements. The holidays are coincidental; they are not twins.

but thats what i get for marrying a girl from Warwick... i'm stuck now...

We'll I agree with you there. Hard to top Velo's beatiful scenery.

Funny, I know quite a few guys who married RI girls elsewhere and ended up back here. Something in the water?;)
