I met Dave about 11 years ago and about 5000 postings ago here on the forum. I have never met him in person, even though been invited to do so a number of times. But yesterday we had our first occasion to speak on the phone. From 10 years of virtual, one step closer via voice to voice. Of course he needed to go to the garage to have a cigar while we talked, but I found out he really is a nice guy. Who'd a thunk?

I would have assumed so... but you never know, right? What did you guys talk about?

He is a very nice guy. Met him at NAHMBS in San Jose. Had dinner with him and other luminaries like Dave Kirk. Good evening. Not sure why they let me in.:)

Did he make you tacos or pulled pork sandwiches?

Definitely a nice guy. He offered to pick up and ship the eisentraut I bought off of craigslist. Didn't end up needing his help but he called me and opened the conversation with "Dave Thompson, how can I help?"

Class act.

I've never met Dave either, but I've exchanged plenty of emails with him over the years as he's a treasure trove of good advice. He's a solid gent in my book and a connoisseur of fine bikes, cigars and tequila...what more can you say?

I think you must have dialed the wrong number.

That does not sound like the Dave Thompson I know..........

I was thinking of writing some trashy comments about his advanced years and declining mental ability but then I realized it would be the pot calling the kettle black.
He really is a good guy and I wish he lived closer to SoCal. We have bought/sold a fair bit of stuff including a Kirk Terraplane.

bikes, bike crashes, and jobs.

The best, the inevitable, and the worst. Sounds like a good time.

I like him, too! Sold me a great Fierte IT at a great price. And since he's my size, anything he sells is, uh, my size, too!
