My buddy is looking to sell his Waterford that he hasn't ridden in years. It was purchased new in LA years ago. He was told it was a team bike but the rider never rode it (not sure if he ever took delivery). He rode and raced it for years.

The bike looks to be in 7/10 shape. No dings, nor major rust but plenty of chips and scratches (but nothing out of the ordinary for the age). Has Dura-Ace 9 speed, rims look well used (even without tires).

Any idea what he should ask for? I don't follow or know much about Waterfords.

Cheers,

GG

About $6 plus shipping. I will email the place to ship it when you tell me what size it is.

More seriously, depending on size, I would say $500-$1000 for a ball park figure. Size seems to make a big difference in what these bring on ebay. While not common you might check ebay as they turn up with some regularity. Common sizes 54, 56, and 58 cm seem to bring more than other sizes.

Also, I think having it tuned up, cleaned up and tires put on it would increase the price it would bring at least equal to or more than the cost of doing such. Without doing such I think you are looking alot more at the low end of my guesstimate.

Thanks for the reply. It is a 58 and, yes, it will be sparkling when it sells.

I'm going to say about 700.

iirc, the 1200 was a Reynolds 753 frameset. It is also likely a 27.4 post. Good luck with the sale.

I concur, the little research I have done shows the same info.

FWIW as well, that's not a full 9-speed group. Looks like a 7400 crank and similar era brakes. The RD and shifters are definitely 9-speed Dura-Ace though.

put tires on it but don't glue them. leave that for the buyer.

clean the whole thing; wax?

sparkling chain and cassette with closeups.

if you're going to the 'bay, i would do a BIN of $1000 or $1100 with a starting price of $550-$600

This one, which I am somewhat familiar with, went for $750 on the 'Bay.

And sold quickly.

if you wait and sell it in May/June you have a better chance of getting more money. Clean it up, rotate the bars so that the bottoms are horizontal put tires on it and give the geometry info as much as you know.
