Bike computer gift advise

Getting my new-to-cycling nephew a speed/cadence bike computer. The one on his handmedown bike finally crapped out. Can i get some suggestions/opinions on easy to use, WIRELESS models for gift giving. Can't go to the Garmin like price range...was hoping to do something around a $100.

specialized makes excellent bike computers. good basic models, easy to read and easy to use. found at any specialized lbs.

How well does the HR monitor work with the Cateye and Specialized?

can't speak to the spec. w/ HR, but my Cateye worked well except in urban areas. eventually went to the V3 because it was 2.5mhz and the interference went away. now using a garmin, so same. I'd recommend something with 2.5mhz for HR if he is riding in urban areas and just get whatever if not.

My old Sigma 1909 was well under $100...

Cateye Double wireless worked well, especially the HR monitor. Some occasional interference. I did find it to eat batteries at a higher rate than seemed justified.

I prefer the interface on the Sigma units. Don't have a 1909. Do have a 1609 which has cadence and speed (no HR). I would suggest one of the Sigma's myself.

If you could do without cadence, the Garmin Edge 200 can be done for $110.

If he is going to ever use the bike around town, I'd also look at the Knog with the removable silicone mounting band.

thru your posts and a couple pm's this is what i gather.

If i want a speed, candence and heart rate monitor with digital technology i need to focus on:
Cateye V3
Sigma 1909
Cateye 430(not out til Spring 2013)

At this point im leaning towards the Cateye V3 due to combo speed/candence sensor vs Sigma 1909 which has separate sensors. Cateye 430 too late for xmas. Am i missing something in the V3 vs the 1909?

and i guess most important, how is the human interface?

Readable size?
Ease of use(buttons, secure attachment, etc)?
Software easy/well organized?
