View Full Version : Interest Poll: Paceline Podium Caps?

We mods are currently evaluating doing some Paceline logo goodies for members and one of those ideas is for podium caps. These would be high quality baseball-style caps with embroidery on all four sides. I have one of these with the Kelly Bedford logo and I can vouch for the quality of the product.

We would be selling these hats for $25 each +$6 P&H and any applicable taxes. Any profits go directly back into site expenses. Mods would not be making any profit off of these.

Please only indicate “yes” above if you are really, seriously interested in purchasing one or more at this listed price, as we need to make some decisions soon on taking the plunge. If we buy a bunch and then nobody buys them and we’re stuck with them, we personally take the hit. We’d rather not do that, as it leaves us less with which to buy vodka-spiked eggnog during this holiday season!

A proof is below. Feel free to post questions and we’ll try to answer them.

Thank you!

Are these structured or unstructured caps?

Maybe I'm a cheapskate (OK, OK, I am a cheapskate) but IMO $31 is a bit more than I'm willing to pay for a cap, even though it's related to my favorite site in the whole webiverse.

Cycling cap, maybe. Baseball cap, non.

The larger the order, the less the per item price. Ours would not be a large order.

What would you consider a more reasonable price?

Also, if by structured you mean they have a stiffener in front, then no.

Structured = a canvas lining inside the front two panels so it keeps it's shape when not being worn. If it's unstructured, then I'm out.

Cycling cap > baseball cap. If you need a designer to make the cap more interesting send me a PM. Right now the logo is just slapped on the most obvious place; the hat could use some inspiration atmo.

BTW, the Zanc cycling caps that Old Fat Man had made are the best cycling caps ever. I wore mine 90+ days this year and it is still as new, only softer and better. I have a spare, also.

This is a first stab at it to gauge overall interest and was designed within the guidelines of the production company. This is an excellent quality product from a local supplier that we have had experience with before, thus the first inquiry to them.

We are open to suggestions as to design, style, etc., that would allow us to have a product that would prompt the number of orders we need. With this particular maker we'd have to order at least 85 caps to get the price down.

Because of the wide variety of headwear preferences it may be difficult to arrive at any one style/design that would generate the quantity that would allow us to get favorable enough pricing to be able to sell them as cheaply as some here would like. I would love to sell them for $20 shipped, but so far I have found no supplier with pricing that would let us do that, account for shipping, and be able to make any profit at all toward supporting the forum.

As mentioned, open to suggestions . . . including hollisCX offer to design graphics for us.

I never stand on a podium... so, I wouldn't get much use out of it, sadly.

Will it come with lots of tags?

It reminds me of this video.

I will support the forum by buying a cap of either variety--cycling or baseball. I'd probably get more use out of a baseball cap because it shades the eyes (and hides the post-ride helmet hair) better.

As DDB expressed so eloquently.

Unless we can make a REALLY LARGE order ... our cost it up there.

It's your Phorum .... any ideas are most appreciated.

This is just the Mods first attempt.

As others have said, I'd buy a cycling cap but not a podium/baseball-style cap. Not terribly concerned about price....

. . . then it's time to unstick this thread and post a poll about cycling caps instead.

Not that I suggest it, but I can see the humor if we include the following logo's somewhere on the hats.

I vote to close this tread and move on to a design with more mass appeal.

gotta say I'd probably be out for a cycling cap... I just don't wear them, but I wear a baseball cap all the time...
