Anyone ever done the Michigander? Looks like beautiful country. I did Ragbrai last year and am looking for a multi day ride for 2013, preferably in a bit cooler climate (105 degrees in Iowa last July), or in a time a year where the temps are more moderate if it is in the South. Ideas for me?

Bike Virginia, a 6-day supported tour held in June, with camping in Tent City or motel options, is a great tour. Last summer it was very cool, moderate temps and low humidity. Of course, June can present quite different conditions in Virginia as well. This year's ride will be from June 21 to 26 in the Shenandoah Valley region of VA. Beautiful country. Usually cooler there than in the DC suburbs, but we can have boiling summers all over the state!

Ask to speak to Kasia at Wilderness Voyagers, they have a ton of guided trips. Crazy nice people and they've won a ton of awards.

You would love Ride the Rockies. Great organization, great people on the ride, beautiful scenery, and epic passes.

If you want cooler, it snowed on Berthoud Pass the year I rode it. It is usually cool in the morning (anywhere from the 20's to the 60's) and warms up during the ride with highs in the 70s and 80s.

If not COLORADO heart cycle.org is very good. It really depends on riding and location you lust for. VBT is also good:bike: Pete

google Pactour. They will ride your butt off...except week 3 which is mellower.

Route is now always in the upper part of the mitten. FAR smaller than Ragbrai, real mellow, short days, family ride, spectacular scenery. Some brew pubs along the way (Right Brain in TC). Options for all paved route or gravel/rail trail mixed surfaces. Shower trucks, free gourmet coffee each morning, breakfast/dinners included. Good sag stops. Low traffic and low key. It's a nice "un-plug". I've done it three times, temps can be really nice, beaches and more.

Ride the Rockies would be more akin to Ragbrai re scope and large groups.

Good comments gang. I'll be out of the country for the Virginia ride which is a bummer as that was one I had considered.

Have heard good things -- and read good reports about -- the Bon Ton Roulet -- Finger Lakes of NY. But have not done it myself.

The BonTon knocks it out of the park. Did it last summer and will do it again this summer. I also did CROC and I thought the BonTon was a better ride.

How is the hill factor for an old fart?

Hit up KidWok with a PM. He organizes a charity tour (for the arthritis foundation) down the coast of Oregon that is awesome. Be prepared for amazing scenery and the possibility of gaining weight from all the great food and support. If you've never had the pleasure of experiencing the Pacific Northwest Coastal area, you are in for a treat!

Another vote for Pac-Tour, 18 days and you'll be across the USA.

I've ridden BRAG several times. There is a motel option as well as outside and inside camping (inside schools and colleges). Some years it is moderately hot other years very hot. However, I don't think there have ever been any quite as warm as this year's RAGBRAI.

2013 ride is June 1-8.
