It was gorgeous today and I should have went for a ride or done some things outside while I had the opportunity. However, a few weeks ago I'd already committed to something special....

The Destination: Kirby, Wyoming, population 92.

The Event: The Launch of Wyoming Whiskey.

The tent contained whiskey, beer on tap, (free) lunch, speeches by the Governor and others, a band, etc.

The end result.

I would guess that attendance was somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-700. Everything was well organized and nicely done.

While I am much more a fan of scotch than bourbon I thought that the Wyoming Whiskey was pretty good. The first sip was a bit harsh but it mellowed considerably after that and I felt had a very nice finish. While it won't replace single malt as my 'go to' drink I'll certainly have some from time to time.

All of the ingredients are Wyoming grown. Here's more about the whiskey if you're interested - http://wyomingwhiskey.com

I don't want to start a fight, but if it's not made near Bardstown, it's not Bourbon.

Amen.

I want to put a guys weekend together for the spring where we do a Bourbon trail, visiting the different distilleries and drink as much/variety of bourbon as possible.

I miss living in Louisville.

I tried some Bourbon called "Rebel Yell" recently. Good stuff. I'd like to try Wyoming now. Jeff N.

Very cool post. I also have a hard time with those outdoor pic's!! Does not look like bourbon country at all! But even though the south east is bourbon country it has been produced in many states including right here in upstate NY! I'd love to try a bottle of WW. Bourbon is my drink, never acquired a taste for scotch. Thanks for sharing.

How long has it been aged? Did they make all that whisky and just sit on it for years before opening?

A distillery opened here in Pittsburgh about a year ago (Wigle Whisky) and they've been selling raw whisky since it obviously hasn't been aged. The aged version should be around in a few years.

They did indeed sit on it all this time; they said they didn't want to start bottling any of it until they felt it was ready.

I'm sure to be accused of being a frou-frou umbrella-drink loving lightweight, but IMO anything that burns like crazy going down, regardless of how warm it makes you feel, isn't worth drinking - especially when there are perfectly good alternatives that don't taste like brake fluid.

Love seeing all these small batch distilleries spring up. That place looks very cool. Could you have ridden your bike to the event?

Could you have ridden your bike to the event?I could have, though it was about 50 miles away from home. The road which goes by Kirby is fairly busy but that is by WY standards; most of you would likely say it has little traffic. :)

Good Whiskey doesn't burn like crazy, even average whiskey doesn't burn like crazy. If it burns and bothers you, then it makes sense that you would seek out umbrella topping libations.

As the good Lord meant whiskey to be consumed.

Brave plan. I'll trade you a bottle our local stuff for a bottle of yours

Awesome post. Just need a Swobo flask cage to finish it all off.

Garrison Brothers is the hot Texas bourbon distillery. I have been trying to get a bottle for over a year. I was at a bar in San Antonio last week and asked the bartender about it. He produced a bottle and poured us each a sample. We both agreed it was harsh and needed some more age. I would not pay the $75 price tag commanded for it just yet.

The Bulleit Rye I had was quite nice though. And at $20/bottle, quite reasonable.
