I'm interested in getting a bar like the deda 215 shallow, but when I look at stem choices, it seems like manufacturers, like Thomson, are all moving towards the 31mm size, and the deda 215 shallow is 26mm.

Are there any 31mm size bars that have a similar shape/reach to the deda 215 shallow??

I think the Deda Newton (31.7mm) has the exact drop of the Deda 215 with the 215 marginally more reach. It ought to work.

Correct! Both Newton and 215 in shallow have 135mm deep, I also believe both to have a 80mm reach as well.

I know you want shallow, but have you seen those bars in person?

I ordered the 46cm and I could barely get my hands in the drops--they were like kid's handlebars.

Anyways, they're really small.

i use both the newton shallow drop and easton ec90 equipe pro, which is also shallow drop. both have long flat drops that offer good room for your hands. both also have round bends, not ergo, which is a plus for me. i think ritchey also offers a shallow drop bar.

The shape of the ergo section will be a factor in the bar feeling "small" or uncomfortable. Was looking at an ITM that seemed to have a larger feeling ergo section, or maybe it just fit my hands better. I didn't know the 215s came in deep and shallow. I may have to try the deeps. What I really like about the 215s is that they allow the hoods to be easily mounted up high enough.

They're for people with small hands, like me! :)

I have both the Deda 215 shallow drop and Ritchey WCS Classic and I personally love the shallow drop handlebars -- but if you have big hands, you might not be able to get your hands comfortably in the hooks. The Ritchey WCS Classic's are a little deeper than the Deda 215's as there is more room in the "hooks".

I personally have never been happy with any of the "ergo" bends that I have tried (and I've tried plenty of them).

If you are looking at carbon, then as Climb said I would consider the Easton EC90 Equipe Pro or the Modolo bars with the Curvissima bend. Modolo does also offer non-carbon version with the Curvissima bend, but I don't know about the clamp size. You can read more at www.modolo.com

Thanks for the replies.
I'm looking for a shallow bar without the curvy anatomic bends.
I'll probably end up with the deda 215 or the deda newton (didn't realize this was available in shallow!), depending on which stem clamp size I end up with.

Thanks!
