...and we have what?! One? here in the US?
***?!
Is it any wonder the Aussies and the Brits are kicking butt on the track? They're making a priority out of it.

There was several tracks around from what I understand but lack of races took the "business" down.
In my country we had one that was used maybe twice, sure now is just rubbish.
There is/was one in colorado, i believe and argentinian was or still is the owner, a couple of years ago the guy was selling some bikes and equipment at ebay i believe, what happened to the installations who knows.
As for indoors, well in london ontario a few guys put together a plan and they built this 150 meters track, is made of plywood but you can ride the whole year at least so pretty much is possible if a plan is well made.
Had money I would built one for myself hehehe :)

We're working on it in Cleveland: http://clevelandvelodrome.org/phase-ii-become-a-donor-or-sponsor/
Phase 1 is complete, and people seem very enthused about it, so here's to hoping that some donors step up for phase 2!

It absolutely amazes me that there's no velodrome in the mid-atlantic. Anywhere.
Its 4hrs to T-town. Its 7-8hrs to the new track outside Charlotte.
...and then what?! Nuthin till NYC or ?Atlanta?

They had a beautiful velodrome, outdoor in Baton Rouge, La.. It was built for the olympic trials in I think the early '80s and was way nice. I moved away and returned 5 or so years later and it was full of roller bladers and skate borders and was in disrepair. The level of interest just isn't there without some vigorous marketing.

There's a new outdoor velodrome (Giordana Velodrome) south of Charlotte in Rock Hill, SC (off I-77). It hosted the 2012 and will host the 2013 U.S. National track cycling championships.
The American Track Racing Association has the latest info on velodromes across the country http://raceatra.com/
Up until the 1930's track cycling was big in the U.S., with Madison Square Garden hosting six day races. Now, however...
