ok,
i'm just showing my ignorance once again
but after receiving the colorado III with serotta o2 fork
with king headset,
i am uncertain how to install the fork...
...does this need to be done by a bike shop
is there a special tool...?
...i've searched the forum...
but am not coming up with anything.

Good luck - search park tools for other repair info as well.

a head set press (possible facer as well) and a fork crown press. If you have those, I would guess you wouldn't be asking the question though. I leave this operation up to the bike shop. Try pricing a good quality tool for this and you'll see why the $20 at the bike shop is well worth it.

I recently had my frame, fork, headset, and stem put together at my LBS. It only cost $15.00 and they did it while I waited. It only took about 15 minutes.

...very convincing pictoral evidence
that either my engineer/riding buddy will have to lend a hand
...or a trip to my lbs
will be right around the corner for me...

If the HS and races are not installed on the fork and frame, I would suggest taking to a bike shop you trust or someone like SPOKES who has the proper tools.

Having the proper tool available is a beautiful thing.

Knowing how to use them is even more beautiful.

I don't make many trips to the bike shop for that stuff any more.

then yes, it's really simple.

If not, have a LBS install the headset for you.

Steve

PS: tools to install a headset are very expensive. Over $200.00 and if you dont do it often, spend a few $$ and have a bike store do it.
