OK guys i was thinking on this, many guys are using 30T cassettes and for those pretty much a medium to long cage rd is needed. What about put smaller jokey wheels in the rd so not it can clear fine a 30T cog??

Seen oversized jokey wheels for campy but never smaller ones like 6T for example.

Any idea why it could not work?

Thanks.

Well, Campagnolo 2009 and later, and shimano are all 11t..older Campag are 10t..Nothing smaller than 10t tho-try it and tell us.

One reason is that the pulley becomes too small for the chain to go around it. Imagine what a two-tooth or three-tooth pulley would look like and how the half-inch link would curve around it. A six-tooth pulley would be less severe, but would wear out fast.

I have gone down by one tooth on a couple of ders. to get a little bigger cog to work. i.e. der is rated to 28t and drags against a 30t cog, so go down one tooth on the jockey wheel.
