We had an extraordinary fall out here in western MA. Beautiful foliage that stayed until Sandy blew through.. and some really exceptionally warm days.
Unfortunately... between work and going back to school... I had pretty much zero time to ride it and enjoy it. I had to make do with my daily commutes, so one day a few weeks ago I decided to snap a few pics... My bike handling skills are pretty good.. my camera handling while riding, not so much. 80% of the shots were of the ground or my arm pits. These are some of the roads I take to work and then class... Show me what your commute looks like.

Getting up at 0-dark-30 has it's advantages:

My ride to work is mostly bike path, behind Amherst college campus, a few residential developments and across some farm land.

If I ride straight to campus from work it's pretty unremarkable, but if I stop home first, some of the back roads onto campus are a bit nicer.

What college? I went to Hampshire 30 years ago and spent about 6 years in the area. I rode then, too. Loved it. Re-visited the areas this fall for the Northampton century and remembered why I liked the valley so much.

I live, commute, and train in your area. My commute brings me from Belchertown to Amherst. Part of my commute is on the northern end of the bike path, the rest is on side roads. If you see a guy on a white/black/red Redline CX bike with an MTX rack system, lights and fenders, that's me.

Im taking classes at UMass.. Yes, it is amazing here. I don't think I'll stay forever.. but I'm almost positive I'll be coming back through out my life to ride here.

Awesome. I think two of your pics are from my street (north east?) I'll keep an eye out for the Redline. I'm on the path early mornings during the week (630-7)... My office is between the bike path and rte 9... so I can pretty much take it door to door.

Today's New York commute was a bit reminiscent of San Francisco...

It was 41 degrees, foggy and damp this morning. Tonight, the ride home was one of those rare Indian Summer night rides. 58 degrees, and you could still feel the warmth coming off the roads.

I work at home. In the winter, the closest thing I have to a commute is trips to the PO to send bits to forum members. Here's a pic from 2 years ago that's typical. No snow yet here, but it was in the mid 20s this morning.

It was chilly enough this morning, 28 degrees, that I forgot I had my lobster claw mittens on when I took this picture. A nice swath of frost on the pasture.
