Any thoughts from forumites on using a single bolt stem with a carbon steerer tube?
I'm looking at a Salsa SUL stem which clamps to the steerer with a single bolt, on an F3 fork.
Reynolds website says not to use a pinch bolt system with an Ouzo Pro. I don't have as detailed info on the F3 but they must be somewhat similar, I would guess.
I can't really figure out if the single bolt clamp stem would be safe on the carbon steerer fork.
thanks.

That would rule out 99% of the stems on the market. Nearly all use one or two bolts in a pinching fashion.

What the instuctions say is not to use a wedge type, single bolt, like some of the Thomson models.

Dave I'm just not clear on this so bear with me. What is the difference between the single bolt type you're saying is a no-no, and a single bolt like the Salsa I mentioned above?

The pdf that I referenced shows the two types. Like I said, about the only brand I can think of that uses a wedge is Thomson. This type of stem is not split in the back and the bolt used to tighten is in front of the steering tube clamp. As the clamp bolt is tightened, an internal wedge device presses against a fairly small area of the steerer.
