I have been looking for a set of bombproof gumwall tires for my road bike for a while now, and thought I would ask for opinions. I ride in the Boston metro area, and flats are a constant threat. I have been trying out 23c Pasela Tourguards for only a few hundred miles, and have already gotten 2 flats. I thought about Resist Nomads, but the smallest they come in is 28c. Although not gumwall, I commute on 25c Conti Gatorskins, and I love them (2000+ miles flat-free). Anyone have any recommendations of a gumwall Gatorskin equivalent? Or have I just been unlucky with the Paselas?

There's the Soma Xpress, also made by Panaracer: http://store.somafab.com/newxpsped70f.html. I haven't tried them.

You could try using tire liners along with whatever tire you like. That would greatly expand your options.

I ride the paselas with better luck than you. What were the nature of your flats? A couple of flats I have had have been staples or thin slivers of metal penetrating the tire. I have ridden a lot of miles on 28mm paselas.

I've had poor luck with the Paselas as well...it's not just you. For a heavier feeling tire, it sure seems to flat often.

I've never used one, but people rave about the Jack Browns and Grand Bois wider tires...one of these days I'll try a set. I don't think people rave about their flat protection.

ruffy tuffy but may be too big, I think the smallest is a 27, they don't really seem that wide though

I somehow have never heard of tire liners... not sure how I missed that. Ill check it out!

It's hard to beat Gatorskins. I use them on my daily rider. They last a long time as well as being flat resistant. However.....You can get a flat on anything.

Ruffy-Tuffys would be good but they measure 27+ on my Open Pro rims.

I had no flats on 700x28 Ultra Gatorskins or Pasela Tourguards in 700x35. Maybe the skinnier ones aren't as tough?

Knocking wood but no flats on 700x25 GP 4000 either-yet.:)

Wonder if Stan's would harm a gum wall

The GP4000 and GP 4seasons are, for me, a sublime tire experience; I don't get many flats...they roll beautifully...they're exactly what I want in a tire.

I have a weird, unscientific theory...I get more flats with wider tires than narrow tires and I think it's because wider tires have more contact surface, and thus a greater chance of picking up debris.

I have had very very few flats while using pasela tourguards (mostly 25's) on my commuter for the past 5 years, and I've ridden over a ton of glass. I think I may have gotten one flat from a metal shard, like Markie had.
I'd like to recommend you give paselas another shot, but I wonder if there is inconsistency with their manufacturing process and I have just gotten lucky with my tires.
