What vintage and geo and tubing type is this steel Merckx? 2006 or earlier?

Almost NOS, is it reasonable at 1000?

Cheers, any advice appreciated!

Is it worth the 1000?

So you say its a 2001 Corsa?

That frame has been on the Boston CL for a while now... you might be able to convince him to go a bit lower on the price, if you are seriously interested.

I think it's a bit overpriced. I would say it's worth $700 max given that it's almost NOS.

I emailed the seller a while back and said price was firm. But as you stated, its been on CL for a while so seller may be a bit less firm.

As for the OP, if 1K was reasonable, it probably would've been sold now. FWIW I offered $ 600 I think.

I think $600-700 is more reasonable for that bike.

If I was spending $1K on a steel Merckx frame, I would be looking for a MXL or mint vintage CE in my favorite team paint scheme...

I dunno...

NOS Corsa 01, probably mid to late 90's vintage, with that unique saddle and chrome fork... that price seems about right.

But it's a buyer's market right now.

A few times, I've backed away from buying something because the price "wasn't reasonable".

Not because I didn't have the money, not because it wasn't what I wanted, not because there was another one I could buy for less, or even that there probably would be in a short while -- but just because the price seemed high. "Where the hell does he get off, asking that much? Ridiculous!"

In the long run, these decisions have come to feel like mistakes.

It's a beautiful bike! My ownself, I'd feel far dumber having the money in my pocket and wishing I had the bike, than vice versa. There's always more money -- there's only one of this frame. I'd say, if it's what you want and you have the money, buy it.

Hey thanks to all for the advice.

What is the geometry of these frames, is it Merckx Century-Like?

Or the more traditional else?

Really looking to try an old Century geo, but tempted by this!

A little steep at 1K, but will offer less....

Cheers, thanks for all your comments, keep it coming!

Awesome frame, outstanding condition, popular size.

I have the same exact frame and paint job in a 57cm size.

If I were selling mine, that's where I'd price it & without a saddle.

If it's your size and what you want, I'd buy it. Look at what else is out there new that's similar to this - a Soma Stanyan is a minimum of $600. They're similar from the perspective of being lugged/chromed steel, but I think everybody will agree the Merckx is worth much more. A few of the older companies are bringing retro steel models. I doubt any of those are as low as $1000 for a F/F.

That Merckx is timeless. Get it.
