Hi all,

I just won two auctions on eBay and now am wondering if the two I bought will work together... (bass ackward, I know! :) )...

Thanks...

Should be fine. You will need a long cage read dr. and a triple front.

As long as you have an Italian threaded BB

Yup, I think you will be fine too. I bet that that BB is not really a 111mm. The listing says "asymmetrical" - AFAIK the only asymmetrical campy bb for triples in that era measured 110.5mm. These were for Chorus and Record level triples. Centaur used 111mm spindles, but they were symmetrical.

I forget the offset for the asymmetrical ones - maybe an extra 2mm on the drive side. Anyway, sorry for the long-winded answer but I think you got the right combo.

Thanks all. The .5 mm difference shouldn't matter, one hopes?

And you don't necessarily need a long cage, although it's the proper RD to use if you use a rear cassette with cogs larger than about 26 teeth. I use a medium cage with a Record 30-42-53 and 13-29.....but have to run it a little slack in the little to little combo, in order to be able to wrap the big to big.....if I accidently shifted there. If I took two chain links out, and stuck to a 13-36, medium cage would be perfect. I just run it a little slack so I can run about anything I wish in rear. Depending on where I'm riding.

I recently acquired a 52 tooth 10's chainring designed to work with a 42, so am thinking about getting one of those new 12-30 Campy 10's cassettes, swaping out the 12-13-14-15-17 cogs for some 13-14-15-16-17 cogs and then run a 13-30 (13-14-15-16-17-19-21-24-27-30) with a 30-42-52 and medium cage. I would rather have a 16 than a 12. And a 52 X 13 is plenty for me for downhills. Mostly ride in the 42 anyway.....good chainline for most of the rear cogs.

BTW.....Campy always says 111 asymetrical for Record and Chorus triple. Phil Wood calls the asymetrical for Campy Record and Chorus 110.5 for some reason (maybe what they actually measure). Centaur based Triples can use same symetrical 111 as the doubles or the 115.

Yep, that BB is made for that crank..hopefully your frame IS the far superior Italian threading...AND it is listed as and measured at 111mm...

Need a triple FD and RD...Comp works great.

Hi OldPotatoe,

Thanks for the note about the Frame. I do not have a frame or fork yet.... So many choices.... ;) I just bought a Triple RD (Comp Triple off of eBay)...

Can a Campy Front Derailleur (Comp Triple) can handle something like a 24 or 26 tooth Granny ?

Cheers!

As long as the LH lever is a multi click type, like Any ERGO 1993 thru 2006,
Record or Chorus 2006/7/8.

26 no sweat..24...chain may drag on bottom of cage when in smallish cogs and 24t and probably need some sort of chainwatcher. Maybe for the 26 as well, never a bad idea.

ha, I was also watching that chainset, I was surprised there were no more bids at the end and think you got a good deal.

Although, I thought those would take a 115.5 BB?

Comp crank uses a 115.5mm BB only with frames who's seattube is 31.8mm or larger.

So would I be okay with a 111 for a triple mirage? The older style one not the newer black one with the steel rings?

I also just found this;

" Axle Length 111mm is for double crankset however it may also be used with a triple crankset provided that the frame seat tube does not exceed 28.6mm in diameter "

yep...only the Record and Chorus used a 111mm Asymmetric..111 symmetrical, like Centaur, AC-H, type BBs for small seattubes, 115 for bigger 'uns.

Oh, crap. It looks like I'll be putting the BB on the market then. :(

I am looking at getting the Travellissimo from Hampsten, and that looks like a 31.8 seat tube...

I've used a 111 Centaur symetrical BB with 31.8 diameter seat tube Centaur Based Triple like Comp before with no issues. 31.8 is borderline though. I preferred the chainline better with a 111 VS a 115.

Read OP's post again. 111 is the only option for Record/Chorus triples.

The 115.5 BB mentioned only applies to Centaur and lower groups. My experience with them is the same as Ralph's. Use the 111 on everthing except 35 mm seat tubes. The chainline is better with the 111.

Do the same rules apply? I thought the comp triple was different.

Same as Comp. Just a relabeled Centaur triple crank. 35mm seat tube, 115 is essential. 'Maybe' with a 31.8...chainline isn't bad with the extra few MMs with the 115, but FD action is much better, particularly when going to small ring, why the 115 on larger seat tube was made.

It appears as though things will work. I also got a Record 10s Front Derailleur, so I am thrilled. Now to find a good frame to hang this all on... :)
