The fork crown panto and headbadge don't seem consistent with an 81' to me...I think he started using that logo mid-80s.

I have a 1979-ish Sachs frame which has the old logo. I thought that the new style came out not too long after that.

Here is an image of an RS brochure from 1981 (albeit with a question mark on that year) from Dale Brown of Classic Rendezvous:

What's the deal on the tires?

"The tires are marked Green Sprint, they are a solid rubber tire with no tubes or valve stems. Surprisingly, they ride pretty well."

Never heard of that tire.

The frame has a Cycleart re-paint... might explain the later period decals.

I have an 83-84ish Sachs bike (old logo) and I think I recall it being just before the new logo when I was researching. I reserve the right to be wrong ;)

Are you sure it's a repaint? Richard used Cycleart back then ... my 79 was painted by them.

Still could be a repaint though.

Another thing is the engraved fork crown, assuming that fork is original to the bike. The old logo frames had "RS" on top of the crown.
