View Full Version : CX-ifying a Campy crankset - how?

I am interested in seeing if there is a way to get 46 x 34 chainrings on a Campy crankset.

Ideally, I would be able to do it on a Record square taper model, but not sure if this is possible. I have a Record triple crankset that I could use, or could easily get my hands on a standard 135mm model.

Yes, I know I can buy a Powertorque CX model, but there is something in me that would love to use a square taper model. I have heard of these 'tripleizer' chainrings that effctively allow you to mount a 74mm chainring onto a small (inner) standard chainring, but I am not sure if that would work.

Oh, these are for Athena 11 spd.

Thanks for any ideas.

I use Zancanato chainrings on my campy 110 BCD cranks.
Work great for cx

If it's an aluminum double, 135mm BCD, so smallest small ring is 39t.

If it's a CT, then use the Campag 34, TA 46t.

If you have a triple, 46t on the inside of the triple, track CR bolts, then a 34, 74mm BCD on the small ring, 74mm BCD section. TA rings.

But your small ring is still a 38? 39?

Buy a used square-taper Centaur CT. Stock is 50/34. Put 46t outer on. Bob's your uncle. Additional benefit of these cranks is that they are 110mm BCD, not the odd Campagnolo 110x4/112.5x1 BCD

39t inner is the smallest you can fit on a 135mm BCD crank. You need a 110mm BCD crank to fit a 34t inner.

To clarify... All Record alloy doubles are standard 135mm. There are only Record compacts (110bcd) are carbon. If you want square taper and alloy from Campy, the only options are Centaur and Veloce.

There are other silver square taper options like the Sugino made Ritchey.

I run a 44/38 for cx races; I have run a 36t on there in the offseason for exploring

I hole you don't a frame THAT TAKES A BRAZE ON REAR DERAILLEUR.
That will limit size of big ring. Need at least a 50t ring

Campagnolo made chorus carbon squared tapper 48x34... i know i sold one and now i regret it hahaha :)

Maybe you are lucky and can find one moving around for less than 150 used?

I assume you mean front derailleur...I have a 46T big ring and braze-on FD on my Meech all-rounder/dirt-road bike...zero issues.

I used a modified triple to create a 46/30 super-compact.

34t seems a bit low for CX, no?
