Posted in Bike Fit also.

I have a 1.125 steerer tube that is 1cm short of perfection if i mount the stem at the top(cap installed direct to stem). Is there a method/way to gain a cm safely and easily?

TIA

Get a longer stem and flip it.

Use the bike as it is probably wont be that uncomfortable?

No one else would care or even notice. You won't see the stem flipped or not either while you are on the saddle. Besides, don't you think that 1cm spacer is also ugly-looking, if you do manage to find a longer steer?

throw your bike away. it's probably totally useless now.

Or buy a 0* stem. Compared to a -6*, it will raise bars about 12mm assuming a 110 or 120 length and 73* hta. Reach will shorten ~ 3mm

Yeah, use a 0 degree (or 90 degree) stem. Performance has an Easton one on sale if 110mm works for you. Not as offensive as a flipped 84 degree stem.

0 deg was my next option.

so i guess the answer to adding a short plug(steerer tube scrap), extending the stem slightly beyond steerer tube end, etc. doesn't excite anyone?

Hmmm...You going to ride it, or look at it.

I'm with the OPs on this. Put whatever stem on it that makes it work for you, and ride the thing like you stole it!

just stretch your neck a little, you'll be fine. no need for a spacer.

Have you thought about the Titanium Serotta or Ti-Cycles Heads Up headtube extension? I'm know there are other manufacturers out there that make more sizes and use other materials as well.

The heads up raises the head tube, not the steerer.

I'm not excited about the plug with the stem hanging on my 1cm less material. Better fitting stem is much nicer then better looking stem.

Haha woops! Now I feel foolish, clearly not even close to the same fit adjustment as the OP is looking for. It appears I have not had my proper allotment of coffee and caffeine yet this afternoon!

I don't think anyone would recommend this as a viable and safe solution.

doesn't excite anyone? It would be exciting, that's for sure. Like in the way kicking a gorilla in the nuts and running away would be exciting. (PS, don't do that either.)

Actually, it's not hard at all to extend a carbon or metal steering tube by 1-2cm. I've got a bike that I've been riding for years with a modified carbon steering tube, that's stonger at the top than anywhere else.

I can e-mail some written instructions, since they're too long to post here.

When the job is done, the top several centimeters of the steerer will be solid epoxy, with a permanent anchor nut for the top cap bolt, well below the top of the original steering tube.

His dentist has kids to put through college, he thinks it's a great idea.
And he asks that it not be ridden after hours or on weekends.

I don't recall hearing what kind of fork we are talking about. Carbon I assume?

Carbon paste. I thought it was all carbon paste these days.

Your comment gave me a laugh. I suppose "anyone" was a bit too broad.

I would not mess with it but instead would work the stem angle if you need to use that fork.
