Mr. Romney was so good, he convinced President Obama to vote for him.

One did much better than expected, the other far less than expected. A surprise for me for sure. Whether it changes anything is to be seen.

Reminds me of the arguments made against Kennedy because he was Roman Catholic and therefore under the control of the Pope. In hindsight now seen as a complete non-issue.

OT as in Off Topic. And it doesn't surprise me that a humorous comment would go over the head of a toothless, yokel from the land of Dairy-Air.

The Paceline Forum is NOT . . . (http://forums.thepaceline.net/announcement.php?f=3)

• For discussion of partisan political topics. If a discussion devolves into partisan politics it will be shut down by the moderators and the thread may be deleted. Experience has taught us these discussions inevitably deteriorate.

As a dem, it was frustrating to watch. To win debates in the eyes of average Americans you need to pander to your weak demographic, call out the other guy's lies out of turn, and be aggressive about getting the last word. Romney was excellent in this regard and Obama failed to do any of that; he is too passive and assumes everyone is as smart as he is. Hopefully someone clues him in soon.

Political discussions are the absolute WORST on this forum.
It doesn't matter for whom you're voting this season...just get out and ride.

Agreed. I second this.

Further, both are disgusting vermin. It really is a kick in the head, that these are our two main choices.

The debate was so full of misdirected lies no one should take it seriously. I am reminded of the Isuzu commercials of years past. There should have been captions saying "I am lying". Absolutely disgusting. And even off topic, why bring it up here. If you really feel the need, go ride a century first, if you still have it on your mind, go ahead and post. Otherwise, just forget about it. Please.

I never understood this sentiment. It will be locked as soon as the mods wake up, rest assured. In the mean time, why not either 1) contribute your thoughts on the debate or 2) skip this thread? It's 10pm anyway, no one is going out for a ride now.

Wow...

His days are numbered. Sort of like in a baseball game, when a manager is ejected from the game for complaining from the dugout. It gives him carte-blanche to redouble the invective.

I remember we had several political threads going about 3 years ago. Although we all love cycling I think things were getting intense and personal. I remember getting in a debate with Louis about France, socialism, etc. Actually most of the debates were pretty good.....but it doesn't fit with our forum. I come here to relax and enjoy the friendship of our forumites, talk shop...etc.

Have a great night.....

People are so scared to talk politics and I don't understand why. If we all remain silent about it, then we learn nothing. It's the dialogue that's important. Grow some thicker skin.

Romney did very well. Their campaign strategy worked. Lower expectations for him, raise expectations for Obama, who is a really good at debating.

Romney sounded more informed than Obama, mainly because his attacks considered figures, but did not consider other relevant factors. For example, the $716 billion comment about medicare was misleading because he made it sound like he stole that money that medicare physically had. For some reason, Obama failed to point that out. To the average person (who only knows politics at face value), Romney's arguments sound very attractive. Obama spoke in generalities and anecdotes, which led to nowhere. A huge let down for me, but maybe he will grow a pair for the next debate.

Oh yeah, and Jim Lehrer sucked at moderating.

I always enjoy hearing a different point of perspective. Even if I am passionate about my position. However many people take things personal, so often times the threads would get downright mean and cruel. The moderators decided to stop it and peace was restored on our forum.

We went through all of this four years ago and politics was banned for good reason - its a more pleasant forum this election than last.

That said, as long as this is going, I can't stand Romney and didn't like much of what he said last night, but he killed - one of the best debate performances I've seen and had Obama on his heels all night. I'm hoping it was Kerry - Bush rather than Reagan - Carter, but I wouldn't bet much on that one...

Historically, political threads have proven to be a slippery slope that usually just goes down hill.

Locking this for now per the forum guidelines.
