Any free videos that would be good to watch while using a trainer? I am thinking of a workout type or a route.
Just scored a Cycleops off of CL yesterday!

This depends on your personality and disposition while working out on a trainer.

In my view, the trainer's greatest strength is that it let's you do intervals on a bike indoors. Yes, you can ride it for a few hours, but it is really boring, and is easy to not put in good workouts as you would outdoors.

I'd come up with a training program based on intervals to do on the trainer. All you need is a clock/stop watch. In fact, you don't even need to spend the whole time on the trainer. Do a few intervals, get off while you're recovering, stretch, etc. Take advantage of it's strengths over a regular bike (namely that you can get off and stretch, and do some push ups, and jump back on to do another interval)

If you want to watch a cycling video, go for it. There are plenty on youtube or other sites. But the real reason to do that is because riding the trainer is mind numbingly boring.

If you keep it fast paced with interval based workouts, you'll build cardiovascular fitness and cycling specific speed/power, without the boredom.

That's my 2 cents.

Trainerroad.com isn't free but I've found that having the intervals spelled out for you, combined with the powermeter makes the trainer time just a little more bearable.

I personally also like to watch Netflix streaming at the same time or Sufferfest videos.

I do the Netflix thing too, my favorites right now are surfing videos
Sometimes I watch cycling races on steephill .com and ride along
Enjoy the ride I don't find it boring ..well not too much
Cheers :)

Warm up for a few minutes, then do 8 intervals of 30 seconds on and 90 seconds off. Do the 30 seconds so hard that you cannot turn the pedals at the end of each interval. You will not care what you are watching and it will greatly improve your cycling and less than 30 minutes on the bike per session. I find interval training difficult to do on the road so the off season is when I improve because it is the only time that I do interval training.

Trainers/rollers are also great for those really easy recovery rides that you should be doing periodically. It's hilly enough where I live that it's really hard to ride and keep the heart rate low enough to be a recovery ride. Spinning easy on the rollers is perfect, except for the brain numbness issue - so videos are great - an hour long mystery is about right - enough to keep you engaged, but not so long that you want to kill yourself.

I have all the sufferfest videos except the new one. I like them, the music and prompts keep it from getting too tedious. The videos vary from 45 minutes (revolver) to 1:35 for the local hero one. The videos are great because they include a warmup and cooldown.

When the Olympics were on I would watch the events at the velodrome. I especially liked watching the Keirin for intervals. nbcolympics.com (http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/browse/index.html?menu3#sx=sports&cx=cycling&fx=fullEventsReplays&ox=recent&vx=grid&px=1) has all the event replays.
