View Full Version : Anyone ride today?

Did a 35 mile single speed ride in my usual place. Hot, muggy and generally a hard day when there's a lot of fast good riders around. Sorry for the same place pics but the bike's different. The Sheep actually met a twin sheep on the trail today. According to the rider there are 2 Blacksheeps in Ventura County and both were seen together today. Pretty sweet! Single speeding on single track is pretty zen for me. Good day to be alive.

I went down to Alexandria, MN and figured since I had my bike with me, I should explore the Central Lakes Trail.

Fall colors, empty paths, and ample sunshine. Beautiful day to spend a behind bars.

Love the stories and the pics.

I have no pics, but did a great 75-miler on a fabulous fall day. It was in the mid-50s when I started, and probably about 70 when I finished. Not too much traffic because I was mostly on semi-rural roads just on the fringe of town. Not a cloud in the sky, and only a light breeze. Like Jack said, a good day to be alive.

Hot, lousy air quality, and my back, which is getting worse not better, bugged me for the whole 40 miles. Still, it was better than sitting at home, particularly given that I spent the whole ride thanking my lucky stars that I wasn't in the midst of Levi's Gran Fondo.

Good stuff AS. Doing a 60 mile road ride tomorrow that was supposed to be geared but I just broke my seat coller on my BH so the Hampsten fixie will step in to pinch hit.

Great pics of the fixie. Looks awesome.

54 single speed miles today -- not all in one sitting. 22 this morning then 32 this afternoon with a buddy of mine who was doing intervals on his geared bike. THAT was a challenge turning a 70 inch gear at 30 mph on 172.5 cranks -- fun though,, hadn't ridden the single since March. Sunny and cool -- 72 degrees with slight breeze from the northeast.

My second ride since I finished building up my Llewellyn after it's respray. Quite hot but did 35 wonderful km's and just loving riding a quality bike again.

And no mechanicals, in fact everything runs like a Swiss watch.

Looked at the weather map sat am.
there was rain on LI but it was clear up north.
So I headed up to New Paltz
(yes I am insane and have yet to surrender to the reality
of gas prices)
It was overcast but the roads were drying up.
Get on the bike 10 miles in, it starts to rain.
Ha ha ha ha ha it's not easy to outsmart the weather!
Anyway it was too late to turn back. and after all the usual
insecure thoughts about safety, flats etc I settled in for
a wet one. Of course, the rain stopped just as I got back.
Am I complaining? No* it's a blessing to be out there,
it just rains somtimes.

I rode the OC Gran Fondo century ride yesterday with four of my buddies. 101 miles and about 5500 feet of climbing. The heat made it very tough, at one point, we were registering 101 degrees on our Garmin.

At mile 34, one of my buddies tried to stop quickly on a steep downhill. He ended up skidding to a stop, and wearing through the tire in the process.

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s81/ofcounsel/404671_4217127341671_1256678351_n.jpg

At first, we thought the day was done, but then I remembered I had a spare tire at my house, about 20 miles away from our stranded location. I called my wife, who located the tire, then my buddies wife went to my house, picked up the tire, then delivered it to our location : ) 45 minutes later, we were back on the road! We had a couple of additional flats amongst the friends, so it made for a very, very long century ride.

I've been waiting out the rain (and the earthquakes - two 3.5's in Irving, TX!). I skipped the gravel grinder last night in order to avoid tearing up my newish drivetrain. It's finally starting to clear. I'm going to take my son, so it's always a good day, even if I don't go far. Oh, and it's my anniversary, too.

Some Canada-Mexico riders stopped in at the hotel where I work. One needed a derailleur hanger for a Trek MTB. We were lucky to find in Albuquerque. A couple joined the single, and popped in the hotel Fri. night.

I rode out with the couple about 25 miles down Zuni Canyon road. I returned the 25 miles via the highway (53) to Grants. They text me this morning saying that they had gone through all their tubes from thorns! They are on their way back now.

We also got chased by a wolf-dog for miles. They won't forget this leg of the journey!

I rode in a charity event today for our county conservation foundation. We only did the 20 mile loop due to time constraints. It was 55 when we started but 70 degrees when I got home.

It was fun.

62 fixed gear miles started in Fillmore out to towards Santa Barbara and back. Very warm but had a slight tail wind on the way back. Stopped at Campensino in Santa Paula for killer Carne Asada, AL Pastor and Carnitias soft tacos with freshly made tortillas. We ate 22 of them between 5 guys.

The Hampsten rocks!

A right arm offspinner, Rahman was a member of Bangladesh's 1997 ICC Trophy winning side. He became his country's inaugural Test captain when he led Bangladesh on their Test debut, against India in 2000. Rahman took 6 for 132 in India's first innings, including the wickets of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

Wet, cold commute to work this morning. I should have known that it was going to be a wet one based on the view I saw of the back yard... Still, not a horrible 21 miles and hopefully the wind won't kick up too badly this afternoon.

Saturday I went on a very mixed terrain ride. Started out on the road, then onto a gravel trail, then a double track trail, onto some single track then back on the road for a little then back onto some double track on the way to some more single track and finished on the road. 51 miles total with at least half the miles being off road. almost 3000ft of climbing. Took me 4:45 to finish.

The rain let up on Sat afternoon, so I grabbed the 'cross bike and started heading out. My ex mtb pro neighbor was heading out on his road bike and I talked him into grabbing his new, never-ridden-yet 'cross bike and joining me. I originally planned on doing 1-1.5 hours, and we ended up riding well over 2 hours hitting all the local trails we could think of. A lot of the trails would have been better with a mt bike, but, well, ride what ya got.
Great fall day, perfect for heading into the woods.

Love the pictures and stories.

Saturday was actually unusual group ride. We typically have 20+ of some of the fastest guys (and gals) in town, but a big group of them when up to do Six Gap in GA and there was another group event going on that morning too. So we ended up with a good group of a dozen guys. Things started out normal and the weather forecast was great with light winds and only a 10% chance of rain. Somehow that changed and just when we were about as far away from the start of the ride as we could be, the skies opened up and poured on us all the way back. I haven't been that soaked in a long time. It was still fun and now I have a really clean bike

No pictures, but they would have looked like this...

More trail riding with Sir Rotta. This is my second time at this junction in Sausalito where there's a bench.
The first time I was here the fog was out and the trees that I'm standing under were dripping water. You could step in and out of the fog and dampness at this spot. I laughed out loud when I saw the lonely bench facing nothing but fog. But as of today I now know why there's a bench :)
