Pretty cool if you like that sort of thing. I seldom use my Garmin anymore, just want to enjoy a good ride.

I was in SF the other week and sure coulda used a Garmin (for the car)! Had to rely on my fading brain to remember the shortcuts I used to take to get from downtown to the Hwy 1/280 merge on other side of town. Tried to make a quick stop at Bike Nook but time was not permitting, had to get to the Central Coast by sundown.

By the way, the farmers market at Ferry building? UNREAL! It's been quite a few years since being in SF, and the Ferry bldg did NOT look like that the last time I lived there. Awesome, awesome food. Can you say dungeness crab breakfast burrito? Maple slab bacon breakfast sandwich? Oh yeah....

Nahh, the sausage egg and cheese breakfast sando can't be beat...

BTW - those new Calfee stems are by FAR the ugliest bike parts I've ever seen.

Prather Ranch "American Eatery" breakfast sandwich--toasted challah, melted american, thick cut maple smoked slab bacon and a small patch of arugula. Unreal.

Damned seagulls almost took it outta my hand when we sat by the water!

in thinking it really cool they are trying to innovate in incorporating power source and the brain of Di2/EPS into the bike, out of the wind etc. Probably greater audience for the Tri crowd where aero trumps aesthetic. Garmin charged on the bike, back up source of power (left and right bar end battery): like reserve air in scuba--gets you home when you mess up.

like the first cell phone, it will get smaller and more aesthetic!

If the top of that monstrosity could be popped open so it could be used as a bento box then you could make bank from triathletes.

Or mount a straight line attitude indicator in there for eliminating squirrely riding. "You're coming into the transition area hot....you're off course correct two degrees right... WAVE OFF WAVE OFF...BOLTER BOLTER BOLTER!!!

Recently on Slowtwitch someone was complaining about getting a penalty for speeding during a triathlon. They had a speed limit on a descent and a radar gun to enforce it. You know, to prevent crashes. I LOLed.

That stem needs a reservoir for gel and an aero shaped straw to suck it out. The Calfee Hammerhead. Now in a special triathlete shark edition. Made of carbon fiber. That's bank, baby. Bank.

As long as we're bagging on triathletes...

Good idea anyways but just put the brain and battery assembly around the bb area hides the unit really well.

I used to sell Calfee...great frames, the Tetra, Luna, Dragonfly, great prices, great ride. Then he became 'interested' in bamboo, recumbents, tandems and his quality control of the carbon frames that made him 'successful', went right down the terlet.

Adios Craig. I hear he does great carbon repair but his carbon road frame business is a fraction of what it was.

Well, if all that truly did effect his bread and butter carbon bikes then I agree with you. That said, I still think he is a valuable, forward thinking mind in the world of so much same/sameness.

I think he lost his way and the pix on this page are examples, IMHO.

Whether or not his foray into carbon bento boxes, etc, had an effect on his crappy quality control, I donno but after getting a custom frame, made to the wrong dimensions then the replacement with a not centered rear triangle..well.....plus about 4 other examples in a short period of time...

He is creative, a sculptor by training.

I've actually heard that Spyder composites do a better job at repairing the frame. I recall having looked up both the technologies explained on their website, and Spyder's approach seemed to make way more sense, from my limited understanding of carbon fiber properties.
