I am going to set up my Hampsten SBTi with Sram. I would like to use a rear derailleur that would be compatible with a 12-25 cassette or a wide range cassette ( maybe 12-34). My crankset is set up as 48-34. I will be using Force shifters. Should I use a Sram 10sp. mountain rear derailleur or one of the road derailleurs. It seems to me that any of the medium cage 10sp. mountain derailleurs would be a good choice. Any ideas from a Sram user?

I'm pretty sure all the new SRAM stuff is WiFli meaning you can use a 32t rear on them...

Thanks for your reply. That new Force derailleur looks pretty good.

Would 2010 levers be compatible with a 2012 rear derailleur?

yes, EXCEPT for the new 2012--2013 SRAM Red group.
Apex/Rival/Force/non-new-Red are all cross-compatible (i.e. pull the same amount of cable), IIRC.

I'm pretty sure any of the road shifters will still work with any of the road RD, incuding the 2013 RED RD with older shifters, and 2013 RED YAW FD with the older shifters -- VeloNews or someone did a write up of all the compatability..

This is the Velonews article on backwards compatibility: http://velonews.competitor.com/2012/03/news/it-works-we-test-sram-red-backwards-compatibility_209270

Regarding bigger cassettes, the Wi-fli system means you have the medium cage RD not the one that comes with the standard gruppo, so decide in advance if you're going bigger than 28. What's new for this year is the longer RD now comes branded as Red and Force in addition to Rival and Apex as it did in the past.
