anyone ever make a penny stove. burns regular alcohol fuel. this is a nifty little project, and the only materials required are two empty beer cans. i threw one together this weekend, and it works surprisingly well. so well, in fact that i would not hesitate to take it camping. it is ultralight and reliable. very cool little device that it took 30 minutes to make.

if you have kids who are into science and making stuff, this is a cool little project that actually turns into something practical and useful. cheap to make too.

it boils water super fast. too cool.

Super cool! I'll definitely give this a try soon.

Would've come in handy a few weeks ago when my MSR wouldn't light :crap:

I have been using one for a while, great little stoves, and at sea level just terrific.

Here's a site you might find interesting:

I've used cat can and super cat stoves on and off over the years. They're easy to make and work well.

I've got a titanium version of this type of stove. works pretty well and my son's boy scout troop think it's neat.

I've never seen anyone so jazzed to have a spork.

I've had the same spork (snow peak ti) for years. It's really great. It goes nearly everywhere with me.

I take back my statement. I've now seen several people similarly jazzed about their sporks.

I suggest we create a sporks subforum for all the spork threads.

I made one of those years ago and it still holds up fine. I never use my Whisper Light anymore. With a penny stove you can fly to any destination and get fuel in a hard ware store. I can't fly with the Whisper Light anymore. The only thing I have not tried with the penny stove is at high altitudes. But they are great little stoves.

You can store it next to the cut-down toothbrush and goose down quilt

I have a ti spork here as well. when I was the weblo den leader, I bought each scout one as a thank you/moving up to boy scouts memento. they were on steep and cheap for like 1.99 or something..
all of the scouts that bridged to boy scouts and are still in a couple years later have their sporks and like to show me and the rest of the scouts.
