Another thread got me to wondering--does older generation Super Record (from the 80's) drivetrain have the travel or ability to handle 10 speeds and be shifted with a more modern 10sp. Campy "brifter?"

I presume the answer is no, but thought it might be worth the ask.

In a word, no. The older Super Record derailleurs won't index well with any shifter*

(*and that includes the original 6 & 7 speed Syncro shifters, which were designed to work with it - the Syncro shifters were a poorly working total failure in the index shifting market.)

Something about a slant parallelagram. The old R and SR didn't have it. And then there is the cable pull thing.

the 2nd iteration of campy indexing has worked fine for me on two bikes...don't believe either designed with the older derailleurs in mind
