To start with, is this a good safe deal?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-Campagnolo-Chorus-11-speed-Group-set-NEW-in-BOX-9-piece-Groupset-/270948817337?pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f15ced9b9

P.S. Shineybikes 818 BP comes out to $1328 in an alternative converter, as opposed to their $1107.

thanks f'ing god that you are finally getting Chorus.

yes that deal is safe,
So is ordering via ebay from velomine.
IF you call up velomine they will also give you a good price (so they dont pay ebay fees)

BTW, Shinybikes prices include VAT (Value Added Tax of 20%), until you input your shipping info,
then the price kicks down to 680 pounds or 1100 dollars.
Plus 28 quid for shipping (almost $50).

Make sure if you order from overseas to use a capitalone card because they dont jones you on foreign currency exchange fees.

Don't shop from the Uk if it's only a $100 difference..buy from them and ask for David or Ben and you'll get hooked up. Also, you get something called a warranty :)

Thanks RBB. Come what may I can't leave this stone unturned.

Thanks for the link FNB!

Anyone have thoughts on the single or dual pivot rear brake?

+1.

I purchased from Velomine directly (Athena 11spd). Very excellent service.

velomine is excellent, but you're better off calling them and buying from them directly. they'll tell you themselves that they'll give you a better price that way because they cut out the ebay fees. win-win for them and you if you deal with them directly on any item.

Ordered from Velomine--great price. Decided to try a 12-29 cassette, which I think should help on the 5 short steep hills we have here, so we'll see.

I also recently purchased from Velomine and had a good experience. Wish I'd known to call though, doh!

Velomine is the best. Bought my Shamal and Zipps from there. I'll probably buy my EPS from them, too.

Gonna ask because I don't know.

Yep, they mention warranty but do they 'self warranty' or warranty thru Campagnolo, NA?

I think it's number 1, warranty is warranty but.....

Question for OldPotatoe, or anyone with experience on this one...

Any issues using a 10 speed crank with an otherwise 11 speed drivetrain? I'm building a bike now that will be my first foray into the 11 spd realm... but I really would rather use a square taper crank. Any issues with ramps, pins, or chainring width?

Thanks!

No, I've used Campy square taper alloy cranks with 11 speed, Rotor 3D with FSA S-10 rings with 11 speed and Rotor 3D with Stronglight CT2 rings with 11 speed. All work fine.

Question about adjusting the 11sp front derailleur. Do any of the extra clicks end up outside the big ring?

I went single in the back as 11 speed brakes/pads seem better by far than my 10 speed. Fronts do the majority of the work anyway. YMMV.

There are 6 clicks available and only 3 are needed. If you fail to set the big ring limit screw properly, the FD will overtravel. That's as it should be, since the shifter is capable of operating a triple FD.

None, plug and play. I had a Record 10s crank on a 11s Chorus drivetrain, demo bike for 2 years or so w/o any issues.

Through Campagnolo NA or Ochsner?

Ochsner also a warranty center.

Some interesting speculation at Interbike about low Campag prices in the USA.

Some things are happening in the US that are going to be addressed. Specifically distributors operating retail stores, selling at wholesale direct to the consumer.

Then ****e is on the way to the fan.

Yeah, meanwhile, my LBS is doing its best to match wholesale prices. They know what's up, even if it means taking a potential loss.

Sad but true for the brick and mortars.

I think any program that makes the playing field level for retailers is not a bad thing.

I think long term, any smaller retailer that relies on volume to make up for losses on individual items is playing a dangerous game. Volume goes down, and retailer is down and out.

One thing that would 'fix' this is to make bike stuff manufacturer direct to retailers, like the ski industry, I hear. Then distributors couldn't do enterprises like this appears to make up for losses.

We'll see what shakes out.

Any thoughts on this chain as a warranty issue? My email to the seller:

With less than 200mi, I have had this Chorus chain fail on one of the pins, about 3 links in front of the "attachment pin". Standing on the pedals at a green light when the chain detached, I was fortunate not to lose my front teeth or gotten run over. My weight is 172 lb.

- The "attachment pin" is installed neither loose nor tight.
- I am using the 12-29 cassette that came with the Chorus group, order xxxx.
- The pics are hi-rez, so you can determine chain length and see the "attachment pin" etc.
- Based on the above, my opinion is this is a warranty issue of a defective chain
- If you feel the same, I am asking that you facilitate the warranty process with Campagnolo, as well as forwarding a replacement chain

Was your chain lubed with Campag approved, 11 speed only, oil?

In all seriousness, if that pin wasn't one that you set, then the link failed on you. But I'm not familiar with Campags warranty policy. Who did you email? Who did you purchase chain from? Who installed it?

Was the seller a retailer? Who installed the chain? New chain, in the package?

New chain in package from Velomine, installed with Campy tool by local mechanic. Looks like Velomine is stepping up to the plate. I picked up a KMC in the mean time.
