Setting aside what the seller claims, any thoughts or experience on how many gears these shifters would comfortably accomodate? Do you think they would routinely handle 8-speed? Anyone with any experience with this vintage of shifter? Thanks!

Also, would these be road bike or mountain bike shifters and does that even matter since they are friction?

How much a shifter will shift is based on diameter of barrell
More cogs means more cable needs to wrapped around barrell
So to check measure diameter of an 8 speed campy and these
Need to be same or very close

Designed as road bar ends, if you use a non slant parallelogram RD(not a modern one), you 'may' get all 8 cogs but I am skeptical. Using a more modern RD, the lever doesn't have the throw to get all 8 before getting to the 'stops' of the lever..maybe 7 tho.

On the Ebay set, one of the lock nuts went missing and was replaced with a nylock.
