Thinking about heading down to foxwoods for a night or two in the next couple of weeks.

Any members from CT have any ride recommendations for when I'm not winning my next bike?

I've looked at some rides in the area from Strava, but can't make a good assessment of how busy/not busy those routes are.

I'm looking for rides in the 2-3 hour, 25-50 mi range, over lightly trafficked roads, don't mind hills, out and back or loops are fine. Might be nice to get down to the coast. I really don't know the area around there at all, so any guidance would be useful.

Thanks!

The shoreline is too developed for the kind of riding you're interested in unless you're interested in sightseeing and seafood.

Heading west/southwest toward Norwich and Groton; too crowded, especially with the sub base in Groton. Stay east of Norwich.

The best riding from the casino is straight north from Foxwoods. The entire east/northeastern section of CT is littered with small towns and lightly traveled roads. In fact, Rte. 2A heading north (technically west) from the casino has a wide shoulder and despite the business Foxwoods does, is not that heavy.

Personally, I'd just carry a map of CT and head north. All the towns on either side of Rte. 395 are tiny, even slightly depressed. You could head all the way up to Wauregan, Central Village, Moosup, and west to Westminster, Canterbury, and Scotland. I've been through many of these towns; it's sometimes like the land that time forgot.

If you find riding Rte. 2A too congested while trying to ride to the hinterlands, here's a good way to leave the casino area and hit the good roads immediately: At the south end of the complex is Rte. 214 west, otherwise known as Lantern Hill Road/Indiantown Road. It goes right by the Mashantucket Police Department. Turn right onto Shewville Road and take that all the way to Rte. 2A, well north of the casino complex.

Mohegan Sun is another big Casino not far from Foxwoods. About 7 years ago we saw Ronnie Spector giving a free concert in the Wolf Den. Mohegan still has free shows, dont know what Foxwoods has to offer.

Peter,

Thank you. That was one of the most eminently informative and useful posts I've ever seen.
