Wanting a bike without spending a ton of money can be a challenge. I was very fortunate to score Riders120's frame in the Classified forum (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=112333&highlight=classified) for my son to use as his triathlon bike.

I wanted a steel bike to replace my beloved Waterford Paramount, so I had been on the lookout when I saw singlecross' thread (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=108362) in the Classified form for a full chrome, Columbus SL Orbea. It's taken me a while to get the bike put together and I still have a few details to sort out, but I took her out for a short shake-down ride last night. The true maiden voyage will be tomorrow.

With the exception of a Dura Ace 7900 BB, the build is Ultegra 6700; Ultegra 6600 wheels & Michelin ProRace 4 tires; Shimano Pro PLT bars and stem; Cane Creek Solos headset, San Marco Regale saddle and Selcof titanium seatpost; and, lastly, Jagwire red cable housing. I'm still waiting for some Kings cages and I think she needs a proper crowned fork, but I'm otherwise happy with how it's coming together.

Weight without the Specialized bottle cage and Lezyne pump = 19.81 pounds

Sorry, the twilight hours and my poor camera skills give everything a blue hue.

I'm glad that the Orbea has found a good home and will get ridden as it deserves. Beautiful and unique bike. Enjoy the rides!

I took the Orbea out for its maiden voyage yesterday. A 50 mile ride around Bear Lake, which straddles the Utah Idaho boarder at about 6000'.

Some observations:

I need to schedule a fitting.
After the fitting I need to trim the excess off the steer tube.
I'm happy to have a steel bike in the stable
Other than esthetics, which are important, I'm not sure it's worth replacing the fork.
I'm happy to have a steel bike in the stable again.

I got a long pull from a tri rider preparing for a half Ironman in Las Vegas in a couple weeks. When we were riding side-by-side chatting for a minute he took a long look and said "That is a beautiful bike, is it ..... um ..... steel?"

Yes it is. :)
