Ok, first I apologize that this post is not about defending or vilifying Lance. Or weighing in on doping generally. Or whether Shimano or Campagnolo is better. Or if steel or carbon or titanium or aluminum is the superior frame material.

Nah, this is just my favorite retro ride. A 1989 Competizione, updated with 1999 Dura-ace 7700. And no, I don't want to revive the discussion of whether the 7400 stuff should have stayed on the bike. And yes, I posted pix earlier, but this is the latest component iteration (thanks for the saddle, Mike).

Bottom line, still smooth, still enjoyable. And as always, your own retro pix are welcome (Ciocc, DeRosa, Guerciotti, are you listening?).

"with 1999 Dura-ace 7700" isn't that same component group Lance....... sorry. Hey, the tommasni looks cool.

That explains why I can go so fast with that Dura-ace group!

But actually he won the Worlds in 1993. In 1999, this is what his equipment looked like . . .

Here is my 91/92 Tommasini Velocista with Campy chorus and Columbus MAX tubing. The ride is just incredible.
Sorry for the non-drive shot. I need to take some new ones.

Very, very nice. And I agree, the ride of an older Tommasini compares favorably to any steel bike of any era.

Here's my Competizione against the airplane window view from Mt Ventoux at the end of my last alpine adventure. 800 miles, 60,000+ ft of climbing, challenging weather- no complaints from either of us!

It's the only bike I ride!

Terrific view.
Btw, what's the age of the bike? I don't have a lot of details on the Competizione, years built, original cost, that sort of thing . . .

Great view and Tommasinis in the pics above.

Here's a pic or two of my 1990 Super Prestige that has turned into our latest project.

The bicycle rides beautifully already, but it will be nice to straighten out a few details.

I bought the frame brand new from a shop for $570 in 1996, but it had already been hanging there from their ceiling for a few years (back in those days, all of the cool kids were buying aluminum!) Thankfully, it had 130mm spacing. I suspect that mine is newer than yours, as the downtube decal orientation is more like the current Tommasinis. Tubing on mine is Columbus SL.

Yummm. Tommasini goodness. All very beautiful bikes. Now if I could find my Eleanor, a 60cm ELOS Techno in black marble paint and yellow lettering. This has really turned into a Holy Grail search. My Velocista needs a stablemate.

Tommasini's are the best. I'm gonna bust mine out tomorrow for some pics.
