What do we all like for track chains? I just ordered a wipperman connex, and was surprised at how low quality it appears to be. Heaviest chain ive ever held too. Been using the cheap sram pc-1 forever with no problems, but curious if im missing out on something else??

Izumi Super Toughness here.

Izumi V or D.I.D.

Never had a problem with the cheaper SRAM either,
but the good NJS chains are totally bulletproof, keep 'em lubed.

why do you have a concern about weight? (serious question)

all the people I know that raced track swore by Izumi V chains.

for SS, I used the el-cheapo sachs chains until I ran out. then used whatever was cheapest from then on out.

DID, KMC here... DID are legendary but are hard to find, my last one sealed somebody from the forums got it.

Oh, i dont for this application. The wipperman just seems to be low overall quality to me

I've been riding and racing track bikes for years and have never given a particular poop about my chain. I think my race bike has a KMC chain on it. I put a new one on my race bike every two seasons.

So: you are okay if you want to be all like "shrug it is a track chain I hereby decide not to care."

+1 I've used the Izumi Model 'V' gold track racing chain (NJS) with great results (read as "quiet and hasn't broken"). The box is marked as Super Toughness.

Agreed, Izumi Super Toughness is what I've used since I began racing on the track a few years back. Never considered anything else.

I've had real good luck w/ the DID track chains. And they're silver if that matters.

OK, this is the one i am now going with. for the three reasons mentioned above, thanks for all of the suggestions. i'm getting very close to being able to ride this steed.

Appearances aside, does it work, is it quiet, does it not break, is weight of a track chain really any issue?

PC-1 is a great chain, as is the KMC one. For big $, DID and Izumi...but they are expensive for no real advantage unless you are a linebacker sized track guy, and maybe not even then.

I don't remember racing on anything other than a SRAM PC-1.

They're chains.

Z410 in purple is what I'm going with for my conversion... Oh, what's that you say? This is a classy/non-hipster build?

KMC here. Never really thought much about it though.

The last thing my pack fodder track career had me thinking was "Man, my chain is holding me back."

Super Toughness, DID chains, or SRAM PC-7x...

The best bang for your buck is the sram pc-7x...

Anyone know any difference between Izumi ESH and Super Toughness other than price? Are the bushings different?

I've run several sram pc1 and they are decent and cheap and fairly light (some fixies climb, not just ride in circles on a track), but I usually stretch them out in < 1000 miles.

My all time fav was gusset espresso - crazy light for fixie climbers, but durable as hell too - I got about 1500 miles on one w/ a lot of major climbing in those miles.

I've found the sram pc7x to be more durable than the pc1 ...

Wish gusset would bring back the espresso!

Don't know, but the Super Toughness looks cool as all get out.

For sure, and the ESH looks identical...right?

Thought I'd offer a frame of reference for smead's "a lot of climbing".

i'm running a chain I got off my Felt TK2 it's colored like the izumi toughness but it's a KMC chain. I can't find the model number but it's been going strong. I've ridden it both on the track and street (brakeless).
