If you've only been riding for 15 years, you may not be able to keep up (I'm kidding)...

http://crev.vo.llnwd.net/o42/mtbreview/images/products/product_350866.jpg

Points to whomever can find a pic of one in florescent yellow, or a copy of the add that had all the colors.

Additional points for lycra saddle covers for racing bikes, that tri-athlete that had the Farah Fawcett hair, and pretty much anything rediculous we used to do.

"Hey, it's what the Euro pros are using". I still have some dead Avocets with the splash colors in a drawer.

I have a celeste 40 that was still working as of a couple of years ago. One of the wires broke where it goes into the mount and I never bothered to look for a replacement.

My Avocet 50 altimeter was my favorite computer of all time. Alas it got wet and died.

I see your fluorescent yellow and raise you with fluorescent yellow plus splash!

I keep it around for adventure races where I can't use a GPS unit.

Live action shot. Combo of the lime green Avocet and the day-glo Sidi shoes (and their yellow sole). The shoes must have been new that summer. A little mud quickly helped dull the glow. Merlin with the the pressed in BB, no sus fork yet then. Oakleys with lime green and blue frames. Sugar Loaf '91? When a single entry fee meant a weekend of racing fun filled with dual slalom, hill climb, XC, downhill and trails racing. Great weekend.

Hey you and I (and an ad I saw with Tinker Juarez) may be the only versions of that pair of Sidis that I've ever seen! I think they were a Euro version of a mesh Dominator. They were purple, yellow, blue, green and pink. They looked great with my purple S-Works M2 (back when S-Works was kind of exclusive). Those Sidis were BAD ASS! I wish a had a new pair just to display.

There is one on my wife's bike. I just changed batteries about two weeks ago at Radioshack. It takes hearing aid batteries and had to buy 8 at 6.99.

Just in case this Avocet-initiated nostalgia makes you want to restore some bikes to early-1990s brilliance, here's my earlier classified for 20 Avocet computers in very good to excellent to new condition in a package deal:

Come on, you know you want to click here (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=108317)

Yeah, never saw too many of them around. The brightness might have had something to do with it. Mine had served a good life and finally gave up the ghost during a week of mtn bike riding that involved endless stream crossing. They didn't have much color left to them by then either. I'd love to find a current pair of shoes that offered the traction of that yellow sole.

Too much was never enough. I've still got the winter jacket; warmest top I own. No need for long sleeved jerseys underneath, either, so I could still rock my old team kit (but only I would know;))
