I am trying to source an oversize compression plug for a carbon fork steerer. The 1 1/8" steerer in question has an inside diameter of 24.6mm, which is about 1mm larger than is typical. I have tried an FSA Compressor, but it has an outside diameter of about 23.5mm. I have also tried using a homemade aluminum shim with the FSA Compressor, but it was not robust enough. Does anyone know if the Ritchey or Specialized compression plugs will work in this situation? Is the Specialized compression plug even available (it's not on their website)?

Thanks,
Greg

The Specialized compression plug is nice, but still too small at 23.4mm. You can see the details here...

I might have one that will work. If you haven't tracked something down in a couple of days, send me a pm and I'll check it out and send a pic of it to you.

I think that if you file some off the small ends of the cones of an FSA it will then expand enough. I measured one that is right at 24.6 when the cones make contact. Taking some off the small ends will allow it to expand a bit more.

Has anyone tried the KCNC expander?

Postscript to this thread: I ordered the KCNC expander (http://fairwheelbikes.com/kcnc-expander-plug-p-1189.html) from Fairwheel bikes. Prior to my order, customer service at Fairwheel was nice enough to answer my question about maximum diameter of the KCNC unit. Turns out it expands to fit 24.6mm and then some. I received it over the weekend and installed it on my fork - perfect fit! We'll see if it works well over the long haul (e.g, doesn't come loose and rattle), but initial impressions are good.
