I think the general concensus is that the Niner fork is the best.

Efficient?

Do you mean which rides most compliant?

A local rider had a Niner carbon fork - and he said it was nice and light, but also felt very unforgiving out on the trails here in CT.

I've had good results with a Salsa Cromoto Grande. I also hear very good things about the On-One Superlight Carbon fork - On-One USA may have some at a good price still.

Harshest I've ridden was a Raleigh XXIX - one of the early non-suspension corrected red ones. That thing sucked!

I had the Niner steel fork and really thought it rode great. Not too expensive either.

I'm having Marty at Geekhouse build a steel rigid fork for my 29er

The aluminum rigid fork on my cannondale was... rough.

My only experience with rigid fork is with the Niner RDO, definitely recommend it.

Has just about enough vertical compliance to be comfortable but it tracks real well with no noticeable lateral flex, probably due to the 15 mm TA feature.

How about a Vicsious?

How about a Vicsious?

Good luck with that. If they ARE still in biz they need to answer their phone and emails. I tried for 2 months to contact them to order a fork and they never answered. methinks they are adios.

I had vague memories of an awful alum Pepperoni fork on my C-Dale and went with a Niner for my S-Works this past off season.Even though store mgr thought at 57 I needed the cushion of suspension.
Fast forward after two races and by golly the manager was right.
It lightness was a big plus at a local race on a course this spring that was suited for a rigid bike but training with it on a regular basis is just too jarring for my old scrawny upper body.
It will go back on for a race in October.
