I forgot what people's response to this question was:

"Can you convert a threadless fork to a threaded version by cutting threads into the steerer?" Any problem?

Hi Weisan,

Yes it can be done with a few caveats. The steerer should be steel. Don't try it with titanium, it is not worth the effort. Aluminum is out of the question. The steerer tube should not be chromed at the section that needs to be threaded. The tool needs to be high quality and sharp. If you are cutting threads into a threadless steerer, as opposed to adding threads to a threaded steerer, it is very important that the cutting tool has a very accurate guide. Some tools don't have a guide at all and you will not be able to start the threads so that they are concentric to the steerer. This will cause your headset to be misaligned. Campy used to make a very nice tool that had a close tolerance fit that would align the threads well. The Park tool is nice, but the guide is a little sloppy and could lead to alignment problems.
